Routes under this umbrella have in common that they all come closer to the Spanish sun, where along the way you will be reunited with (almost) forgotten impressions and memories.
This time the trip goes from Hattem to Reusel.
Afterwards you will have refreshed your memory and also discovered that the Netherlands is so damn beautiful. And that is certainly worth 5 stars.

IJsseluiterwaarden bij Hattem
Between the northern edge of the Veluwe and the IJssel lies the picturesque Hattem, where this route starts. The Hanseatic city has been a source of inspiration for painters for centuries. Not so surprising: the city is not only 'photogenic', it is also located in a beautiful area with forest and water a stone's throw away. Stroll through the atmospheric city center and discover the many authentic shops and cozy terraces. But don't forget to visit the three special museums!
After exploring the city, the surroundings certainly deserve your attention. Around Hattem you will find three nature reserves, each worth a visit: the Veluwe and Landgoed Molecaten – with a chance of seeing wild boars, foxes, red deer and roe deer, the Wiesenbergse Kolk in the floodplains where otters, beavers, geese and storks live and the Algemene Veen with rare plants.
In Wapenveld, the beautiful mill de Vlijt is located on Vrieze's Erfgoed. Many volunteers are active to preserve this place for Wapenveld and surroundings. In Wapenveld, the National Dairy Museum is housed in an old farm.
Experience the ancient treasures, richly furnished rooms and paintings that come to life in the castle Vosbergen with its beautiful garden with surrounding Saxon farms in Heerde and the originally medieval castle Cannenburch in Vaassen. It is located in a beautiful old park forest with meadows and ponds. The castle can be visited and in the immediate vicinity you can walk or cycle.
You are approaching the Veluwe. The capital of the Veluwe, Apeldoorn has the palace t Loo and the monkey park Apenheul, both worth a visit. Hoog Buurlo is a hamlet just next to Apeldoorn and consists of two sheepfolds and two houses, a herd of Veluwe heath sheep, stately beech avenues, oak and beech forests, fields surrounded by game walls and bordering the vast Hoog Buurlo heath.
The next place you will visit for a coffee break, Hoenderloo, is a charming village in the middle of the beautiful Veluwe! Discover the breathtaking nature, explore the vast forests and spot wild animals. Or visit the nearby National Park De Hoge Veluwe and the famous Kröller-Müller Museum. In Hoenderloo itself you will find cozy restaurants and nice shops. The park covers approximately five percent of the Veluwe. It is part of the largest lowland nature reserve in Northwestern Europe and consists of coniferous forest, deciduous forest, heathland, sand drifts and agricultural land. In addition, space has been reserved in the park for special cultural-historical elements, special architecture such as the hunting lodge designed by Berlage, and visual art in and around the Kröller-Müller Museum.
There was talk for a while that Deelen air base would become the national airport. What started in 1914 as a landing strip on a grass field, was expanded by the Germans into a modern airfield during the Second World War. In the meantime, Deelen air base has already been turned into an airfield and has become a national monument. A small museum is now housed in one of the airfield buildings.
You have arrived at the Veluwezoom National Park near Arnhem. The ice that was pushed forward from the north after the Ice Age left behind impressive moraines. These were further formed by the course of the Rhine. Which kept changing direction. In a number of places along the Rhine this provides beautiful views and beautiful spots. Arnhem has a number of famous attractions. Such as the Open Air Museum with the Canon of the Netherlands and Burgers Zoo.
In Oosterbeek you can visit the Airborne Museum, where the Battle of Arnhem is commemorated.
The Wageningen University manages the Arboretum Belmonte. This unique botanical garden on the Wageningen mountain has the largest rhododendron collection in the Netherlands with hundreds of species.
Another historical site a stone's throw from Wageningen is the Grebbeberg. During the Second World War, a fierce battle was fought on this 52-metre-high hill in Rhenen, and today you can walk through the woods in peace. Much damage was done to the cities of Rhenen and Wageningen on both sides of the Grebbeberg. The field of honour on the hill is now a silent witness to this battle. Ouwehands Dierenpark is located right next to it. The striking Cunerakerk in Rhenen has been restored to its former glory. Admire the Cunerakerk on the other side of the Rhine, across the bridge to Kesteren in the land of Maas en Waal.
Dreumel, located in the municipality of West Maas en Waal, is a small picturesque village between Wamel and Heerewaarden. Near Dreumel you will find the Driedijkenpunt, a point where the Waaldijk, the Maasdijk and the Heerewaardense Afsluitdijk meet.
At Hedel you cross the Maas, past Fort Crèvecoeur, to the former fortified town of Engelen. Where the Engelerschans used to stand to protect 's Hertogenbosch, there are now newly built castles, such as Leliënhuyze Castle.
Once you arrive in Brabant, it is time for lunch. A nice spot is at the IJzeren Man, at a recreational lake in the woods near Vucht. When you think of Vucht, you also think of Kamp Vught, one of the three former German concentration camps. If you have never been there, this is certainly an opportunity.
Haaren has its castle Nemerlaer, originally a medieval castle. It is located on a vast estate, the castle lanes of which end on the road from Oisterwijk to Boxtel. Characteristic of the estate is mainly the family history. Castle Nemerlaer owes its name to the stream Nemer and a Laer, an open space in the forest. It is suspected that a hunting lodge of the Dukes of Brabant once stood on this site.
Over the Brabantse dreefen you drive along the Oisterwijkse fens to Oirschot. Do you think the Netherlands is full? Then travel to Oisterwijk and explore the area south and southeast of this Brabant town. A visit to the municipality of Oirschot takes you back in time. With more than 320 monuments, there is always something to see and discover. Surrounded by monumental estates and Brabant nature, Oirschot is a place for everyone who loves to enjoy and relax. But those looking for a pleasant atmosphere can also go to Oirschot: there is plenty to taste and experience.
Over the Oirschotse heath you finally come to Eersel with a protected village view. It is therefore not surprising that the end point of this tour ends on the Markt. There are enough places here to end the tour with a drink
In the summer, the Market is one large terrace under the lime trees, where it is an exceptionally pleasant place to be for anyone who is content with life.

The 10 most beautiful car and motorcycle routes in the Netherlands
These 10 routes in the Netherlands have been carefully selected, checked and made equal for TomTom, Garmin and MyRoute-app Navigation by a MyRoute-app RouteXpert. The 10 most beautiful motorcycle and car routes in the Netherlands are always a snapshot, and a personal opinion of the reviewer. This does not alter the fact that every lover of beautiful roads and interesting sights will enjoy these routes.
The ten routes are spread over 10 provinces, we only skipped Flevoland and South Holland. Interesting routes can also be found in the MyRoute app RouteXpert library, but we still want to stick to the 10 most beautiful and not the 12 most beautiful.
Enjoy the many fortresses and castles that are included in the routes, such as Fort Veldhuis in North Holland. But also take a look at the route southeast of Nijmegen and visit the impressive Canadian War Cemetery and Memorial. The route 'Overijssel in bird's eye view' includes the oldest house in the Netherlands and the route along the IJssel is probably the most beautiful piece of asphalt in the Netherlands.
This way there is something for everyone in this route collection. If you do not agree with these 10 routes, please send us an e-mail, indicate which route(s) should be removed and which route you would like to see instead. Maybe your route will be included in this collection of the 10 most beautiful routes in the Netherlands!
