Along the way you will pass many beautiful cities and villages with beautiful sights, nice cafes and restaurants. Along the coast there are also several seaside resorts with beaches, boulevards and cozy terraces.
There are beautiful nature parks where you also have the opportunity to walk, hike or canoe. There are opportunities for water sports along the coast. The roads are of good quality, but be careful with a wet road surface it is slippery. Croatia has a wonderfully mild climate and you can spend the night in one of the many hotels, holiday parks or campsites.
This route takes you from Novigrad, via Opatija and Rijeka to Selište Drežničko and is approximately 327km and takes about 11 hours depending on the stops you make. You have the option to cut the ride in half by planning an overnight stay in Rijka. This is definitely worth it because Rijeka has a lot to offer for tourists.

Nice Hairpins in Croatia
We leave the Aminess Sirena campsite in Novigrad, refuel our engines and leave the city in a northwestern direction. After about half an hour of driving we can stop briefly to take a picture of the Butori ponor waterfall (RP2).
We descend via a beautiful winding road with a number of hairpin bends to the town of Livade where we continue the road to Mali Mlun to stop for a coffee at Café Restaurant Old River (RP6), with a nice terrace overlooking the river Mirna .
The ride continues on beautiful winding mountain roads and through valleys, along the way you can enjoy the beautiful nature and sometimes beautiful views. Keep in mind that on the narrower mountain roads, the traffic driving uphill has right of way. On the way you can stop every now and then to enjoy the panorama and take a picture.
After about 1½ hours of steering you will come to RP11, where you can visit a film location of Winnetou. To do this, turn right and follow the road to the location where a three-part TV movie about "Winnetou" was filmed in 2015 in the closed quarry and train station of the Lupoglav-Raša railway line. The movies are "A New World", "The Secret of the Silver Lake" and "The Last Struggle". Nice stop for those who love these films.
Another recommended stop is a little further and is part of the Nature Park “Vranjska Draga” (RP12). You can park on the right and take the walk to the canyon where you can enjoy the spectacular view over the beautiful canyon. The most amazing cliff is the 100 meter high Great Tower (Veliki Toranj). This requires some extra time, because the mapped out walk is about 1,200m in total and takes 40-50 minutes.
Then we drive up a beautiful winding road to the highest point of this route at 960m. There are two attractive points here to stop short for a photo; at RP13 there is a small fountain “Voda Josipa II” along the road and a little further at RP14 is “Krog Vidikovac”, a rock formation with artwork on some rocks. For this you have to walk a short walk from the parking lot.
We now descend to the coast via a beautiful winding road with a few tough hairpin bends at the end. At RP15 you pass the “Villa Münz” which refers to a period of turbulent Austro-Hungarian buildings of Opatija, Lovran, Icici and the surrounding area. The Villa takes its name from the name of the wealthy industrialist Jacob Ludmig Münz, who was the first owner of the villa. Münz was known for its investments in the first electric trauma depots in Rijeka and Pula.
In Opatija (RP16) it is an option to take a longer break for a delicious lunch in one of the many restaurants and to see the city. There is a lot to see here, there are parks, cozy terraces and a beach.
Another option for stopping longer or even planning an overnight stay in Rijeka (RP), this large city has a lot to offer travelers and tourists. Meander through the many old streets and avenues lined with beautiful 18th-century houses and buildings, pausing to view the old castle and churches, as well as some impressive museums and galleries. Also worth a visit is Risnjak National Park, a heavily forested, mountainous area with numerous hiking trails for enthusiasts. From Rijeka there is also the possibility to make a day trip to one of the many Croatian Islands.
We leave Rijeka and drive to Bakar (RP21) where you can stop for a drink in the beautiful bay of this small village. On the other side of the bay at RP22 is the Dvorac Frankopan; Frankopan's city castle is a medieval fortress, located on a hill above the sea. With its dimensions and shape, it dominates the environment and represents an exceptional architectural accent in the space. Well worth it for a short visit.
We continue on the well-known coastal road (E65) to Senj. This is a nice relaxed ride with beautiful views of the bay. In Senj we turn left and take the winding road to Brinje, where we stop at Café Bar Santana (RP27) to have something to drink and eat.
After this stop we continue up the road until just before Zdenac. This road has many curves and is wide and clear. Overtaking is only allowed at the designated places (three-lane road). Just before Zdenec we turn right and descend via a wonderful winding road to our final destination in Selište Drežničko, where we spend the night at camping Kamp Korana in the Plitvička Jezera nature park.
This route is rightfully worth 5 ***** stars because of the wonderful winding roads, beautiful nature and many sights along the way. Extra nights in the larger cities are an option and a longer stay in the Plitvička Jezera Nature Park is also recommended for hikers and nature lovers.
