Today you travel from Revúcka Lehota to the water reservoir Veľká Domaša. Shortly after departure you can visit the Slovakian opal mine. Then you drive east, parallel to the Slovak Karst National Park. At the most eastern tip of this National Park you can visit the Jasovská karst caves. And for dessert, towards the last part of the route, the Ochtinská aragonite cave is on your list.
Fortunately, there is not only enough to see underground, but also above ground. The many options to stop for photos along the way says enough.
Again this route gets 4 stars. Along the way there is plenty to see and do (impressive caves and of course another castle), as well as the nature that is breathtaking. Unfortunately, this route in the collection also does not receive 5 stars, because the road surface on the route is not always good.

Slowak Opal Mines
Out of sight, underground, something special is happening in Slovakia. More than 2400 caves are currently registered in Slovakia. Most of these mysterious places are not easy to enter, but fortunately some of the most impressive caves in Slovakia are accessible to tourists. Today's journey takes you from Revúcka Lehota to vodná nádrž Veľká Domaša through some of these magical underground mazes.
You could say that today's route starts with the icing on the cake... or rather with a gem on the cake: immediately after departure you can visit the Slovakian Opal Mines. These mines were known worldwide for the high quality opal, which was mined here. For example, Napoleon's family had a preference for jewelry with opal extracted from these mines. The mine also gives you a good example of how the knowledge acquired at the university in Banská Štiavnica (route 1) was applied here in practice.
A visit to mines is always impressive. Especially the moment you leave the dark mine and face the sunlight. Especially if you drive this route in the summer, you may notice that the outside temperature has risen rapidly since you entered the cave! Fortunately, today you have even more chance to visit a cave to cool off.
The 700 caves of the “Slovak Karst National Park” are not on your list today. The route runs parallel to this mountain range and from time to time you can see the tops of the 346 km2 UNESCO World Heritage site between the trees.
Not much later you can visit a special cultural place. The castle of Krásna Hôrka slowly comes into view. Freely translated, the castle is called "beautiful mountain", although some people give the mountain other names: in 2012, part of the castle burned because grass on the mountain caught fire. Fortunately, "only" 10% of the castle and its historical museum pieces are has been lost, so that you can still get a nice picture of how noble Hungarian families have lived and lived here from the 14th century.
After this visit, the route continues eastwards. You can still see the mountain ranges of the National Park to the south and, as you ascend to an altitude of around 1,000m, you have a better view of the mountain range. Hence the many stops to take pictures of the views along the way.
It is special to realize that, with only 80km under your wheels today, you have already made so many impressions. A good time to let all those impressions sink in during the break at Gasthof Levanda. Through the gate of the bright purple Gasthof, you can pick a spot on the terrace in the courtyard.
Alternatively, you can also take a break in the next village (Jasov) at Restaurant Starý mlyn. This restaurant is located near the entrance to the Jasov limestone caves. These caves are also included as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and can be admired via a well-lit walking path.
The literal low point of this route takes you to the absolute high point of this route. With an altitude of about 1200m you drive through the mountain area around the Kojšovská hoľa (1246m), the highest point of your route today. Don't underestimate this climb; secretly it takes you 45 minutes to do a 20km stretch. It is possible that the barrier is closed so that you have to turn around. In that case, it is best to enter the 547 via Vyšný Klátov (partly unpaved) or Košice (fully paved). After Košická Belá you can pick up the original route again.
The road up the mountain is narrow and requires absolute attention. Also keep in mind that the route gives a wrong change: from way point 16 it is best to ignore the directions from your Garmin and continue to way point 17 and further.
At the highest point you can pause at Chata Erika and enjoy the tranquility of the mountains. Alternatively, you can also, a little later on the route, take a break at a motorcyclist hotspot. In Jaklovce you can take a break at the Biker's garage. Also a great opportunity to provide your motorcycle with renewed energy at the adjacent gas station.
From now on, the road follows the Ružín water reservoir, which turns into the Hornád river. Along the way you will have several moments to stop and take pictures of the reservoir, which was mainly built to supply the industry with water and generate energy.
The Hornád will take you to Obišovce. The river bends south as the route continues east. From here it is another hour's drive to the route's end point, at the Veľká Domaša water reservoir.
If you have time, you can deviate from the route along the way to visit the Slovakian Opal Mines near Červenica. In 1775, the largest opal in the world was discovered here: the Harlequin.
On the last part of your route you can, if you like, take a break at the geyser of Herľany. You can admire a small geyser and have a drink before starting the climb on the mountain pass of the same name.
Just after Sedliská you can see the ruins of Čičava Castle. Once you arrive at the hotel, give your honest opinion about today's route. Between 1600 and 1700, Čičava Castle was known for the “book of lies and liars”. You don't want your name added to the list of liars in this book!
