View from Brasstown Bald Visitor Center RP19
Today is all about travelling through the Great Smoky Mountains. Today will be about winding tree lined roads, be it a single lane back road or travelling along the Applachian Highway, the view will be trees, trees and more trees.
After a coffee break and late breakfast snack it is time to ride through the countryside of Suches on Highway 60. This drive will take you through the scenic Chattahoochee National Forest, so if wilderness is your passion this drive is the one for you! The Suches area is known as “The Valley Above the Clouds” and you’ll definitely feel like since this ride takes you 3,000 feet above sea level. You then turn onto Highway 129 South and this will take you right through Chattahoochee National Forest, which takes up a large part of North Georgia, a whopping 749,689 acres! You’ll also climb through the North Georgia Mountains on your way, taking in the sights as you go.
Make a stop at Brasstown Bald Visitors Center (RP19) and take in the views as you are at the highest point in Georgia rising 4,784 feet above sea level. ($7 includes the shuttle to take you to the top, June 2022)
Travelling along Route 76 you cross the Chattooga River and enter South Carolina. (RP30)
Your travels will lead you eventually to the Highlands Highway, Route 28, otherwise known as Moonshiner 28. Moonshiner 28 is fast becoming one of the great must-do roads of western North Carolina. Everyone has heard of the Tail of the Dragon and now there is another comparable road that is less crowded and offers even more to see for the two-lane tourist. Once one of the major runs for moonshiners with revenuers hot on their bumper, the road today boasts some great twisties, wide sweepers and unsurpassed scenery. Mountain vistas, waterfalls and secluded lakes appear around nearly every corner. (From a personal note this is the authors favourite road he has ridden to date)
Plenty of photo opportunities with 2 chances to be behind a waterfall while taking them. Bridal Veil Falls (RP43) and Dry Falls (RP45) Although the road leads all the way to Deals Gap and The Tail of the Dragon today we end our travels in Franklin, TN. the third US State of the day

Bridal Veils Falls RP43

Dry Falls RP45

Ultimate USA road trip part 05
Michel van Hagen challenged me to follow the Roadtrip of Dr. Randy Olsen as a basis to create the Ultimate USA Road Trip for the MyRoute app RouteXpert Library. I took up that challenge and started in February 2022.
The scientist Dr. Randy Olsen, who became known for using his knowledge of algorithms to find 'Waldo' in the well-known American 'Where's Waldo' book series, has been challenged by Tracy Staedter, from Discovery News, to use the same algorithm to create the perfect Road Trip by creating the US, which will visit almost every state in the US. Alaska and Hawaii are not included in this Road Trip due to their geographical location.
The following three requirements formed the basis of the route: In all 48 countries there must be at least one stop at famous points, monuments, historical sites, national parks, etc. I have added additional interesting points, beautiful tours and routes.
After more than 26 months, the job is finished and, with a lot of support from Nick Carthew, I have created 129 routes that run through the 48 states of the USA and part of Canada. This is the fifth collection that takes you from Cocao Beach in ten days through Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia to Kill Devil Hills in North Carolina.
