I rode the route in June 2019 with a small group of motorcyclists. If you do not leave too late in the morning, you will be back in Limburg well before the end of the afternoon. The route is fairly simple, so that people with little driving experience outside the Netherlands can get a nice first impression of the Eifel and the Moselle. For the more advanced motorcyclist it is primarily a route with many beautiful views, undulating roads and wonderful places to pause.
This return trip is part of a three-day weekend trip to the Moselle. The other routes can be found in the links at the bottom of the detailed route review.
The route has been made the same for Garmin, TomTom and MyRoute-app Navigation.

When we drove the route, we left the hotel in Enkirch around 9.30 in the morning. We drove out of the village and immediately saw the rising fog rise above the Moselle. We drove a short distance past the morning cold of the Moselle, after which we left the Moselle behind us.
From here the route is playful. Large wide turns and hairpin turns alternate and eventually we drive into a narrow country road at Ripsdorf. This small country road runs past Nonnenbach and is worth it because of the beautiful nature area that you drive through. Here you can take beautiful pictures; possibly also from wild animals. So pay attention: during our ride 2 small deer crossed the road.
After Nonnenbach you enter the village of Marmagen. This place is known for "the tasty bakery in Marmagen". Cafe Milz is a cozy Konditorei in the middle of the village. The converted mill offers a rich selection of cakes, pastries and hearty dishes. A nice place to relax on the terrace, or inside the maze of rooms.
After this break you drive into the Eifel and you pass famous places such as Schleiden and the Rursee. You notice that it is becoming a lot busier here, with all the tourism on and along the road. As a short break you can consider taking a boat trip at Einruhr on the Rursee. If you want to take a break around that time, I advise you to continue to Simonskall. This village is a little further along the route, and is a lot more charming than Einruhr. This village is hidden in a valley, at the end of a narrow road. It has a number of restaurants with ample parking places for the motorbikes. The route to and from Simonskall is also worthwhile. The road and the space around it becomes narrower and darker until it opens just before the village. Please note: the exit to the Simonskall Valley is immediately after a hairpin bend to the right. Keep this in mind!
If you need to be home in time, you can take the highway after Stolberg. If you have a little more time, you can continue the route via the east side of Aachen to finally arrive at Echt via inland roads. You can then take a short break in Herzogenrath and you will pass the Brunsummerheide before you arrive in Echt again.
The route gets 4 stars from me, because it is a nice varied route. You drive on a variety of roads (small and large), all of good quality. In addition, you will pass through various idyllic small nature reserves in the Eifel and Moselle. The hidden breaks are the icing on the cake and make the route extra interesting.
Additional comments about the route:
- between route points 17 and 18 there is a difference in route between Garmin, TomTom and MyRoute-App Navigation. Keep this in mind. If you drive alone there is nothing wrong. If you are driving in a group, follow your driver. From route point 18, both routes are the same again.
- The route has been made the same for TomTom, Garmin and MyRoute-App Navigation

Limburg
About this region
Limburg (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈlɪmbʏr(ə)x] (About this soundlisten)) is the southernmost of the 12 provinces of the Netherlands. The province is bordered by the province of Gelderland to the north and by North Brabant to its west. Its long eastern boundary forms the international border with the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. To the west is the international border with the similarly named Belgian province of Limburg, part of which is delineated by the river Meuse. The Vaalserberg is on the extreme south-eastern point, marking the tripoint of the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.
Limburg's major cities are the provincial capital Maastricht (pop. 121,565[5]), as well as Venlo (pop. 101,603) in the Northeast, and Sittard-Geleen (pop. 92,661) and Heerlen (pop. 86,832) in the south. More than half of the population, approximately 650,000 people, live in the south of Limburg, which corresponds to roughly one-third of the province's area proper. In South Limburg, most people live in the urban agglomerations of Maastricht, Parkstad and Sittard-Geleen.

"And then I think of Brabant, because there is still light burning there" and that is true, because the City of Light is in Brabant, in Eindhoven that is, but Eindhoven is also known as the match city of the Netherlands. The annual light festival (GLOW) in Eindhoven shows breathtaking lighting techniques, something you must see once.

The 10 most beautiful car and motorcycle routes in Limburg
Limburg, who thinks of Limburg, thinks of flan, coal mines, marl and the hill country. The coal mines have been closed for almost 40 years, the last load of coal was brought up from the Oranje-Nassau coal mine in Heerlen on 31 December and, as they say, South Limburg was transformed from Black to Green and unfortunately there is still little left. view of this period.
But not only pie, marl and coal in Limburg, but also a very beautiful province to tour by car or motorcycle and enjoy all the beauty that the province of Limburg has to offer. For this, the MyRoute app RouteXpert has put together a Top 10 of Car and Motorcycle routes for you.
