Ferries will be used regularly in the routes, including this route. Although it is usually not necessary, it is wise to have cash with you for the ferry. It is not always possible to pay with the card!
This route, together with the second route, forms the journey to Hirtshals in the north of Denmark, where the ferry to Kristiansand in Norway awaits you. The start of the route is at the De Poppe border crossing on the A1, the end point is at the German town of Schleswig. The routes are easy for everyone and are on well-paved roads.
Given the excellent condition of the roads, the ferries and the interesting northern German part, I rate this route 3 stars.

Ferry Wischhafen - Glückstadt
This route is part of a collection of a total of 13 routes that let you explore the south-west of Norway. This is the first part of two routes that take you to the north of Denmark, Hirsthals to be precise. From there you take the ferry to Kristiansand.
You start at the A1 border crossing and drive directly into Germany. What, highway? Not long, after 2 km you leave the highway and won't return for a while! Via Nordhorn, Lingen and Cloppenburg, it is high time to stop in Ahlhorn for a cup of coffee and perhaps a nice fresh sandwich. This is possible at Konditorei Knappe, right in the center, directly on a roundabout.
After coffee you continue towards the northeast and via pleasant secondary roads you arrive after about 70 kilometers at the first ferry of this route, namely Brake - Sandstedt, which will take you to the other side of the River Weser . As a practical connection between the two sides of the Weser, the Weser ferry 'Kleinensiel' sails every 20 minutes from Brake/Golzwarden to Sandstedt and in the opposite direction. The ferry ride on the Weser is pure relaxation. Enjoy the view and the colorful crowds on and in the river.
Once off the ferry, continue the route again towards the northeast. Shortly after Hagen im Bremischen it is time for a fuel stop and lunch, which are indicated in quick succession on the route. A nice place for lunch can be found at Zur Goldenen Aue just outside Bramstedt. Delicious food for a great price!
Another 70 kilometers further you will arrive at the second ferry in this route, the Wischhafen - Glückstadt ferry. This is considerably busier than the first ferry. Motorcyclists are allowed to drive past the line of waiting cars/campers/trucks and wait at the very front. Take advantage of it, it can save you a lot of time waiting!
After a beautiful 20-minute cruise on the Elbe, it is time for coffee after coming back to land. You can arrange this at Hotel Dithmarscher Hof in Itzehoe. Located directly on the route, so there is something to see while having coffee.
From Itzehoe you drive largely on the B77, after all, almost 400 kilometers have to be covered in this route. After 75 kilometers of B77 it is nice and you take the exit at Schleswig. Before arriving at the hotel you first have the option to fill up the tank.
Have fun driving this route!

Bremener Harbour
About this region
Bremerhaven (German pronunciation: [ˌbʁeːmɐˈhaːfn̩] (listen), lit. 'Bremener Harbour', Low German: Bremerhoben) is a city at the seaport of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, a state of the Federal Republic of Germany.
It forms a semi-enclave in the state of Lower Saxony and is located at the mouth of the Weser on its eastern bank, opposite the town of Nordenham. Though a relatively new city, it has a long history as a trade port and today is one of the most important German ports, playing a role in Germany's trade.
Wesermünde was a neighboring city created in 1924 through the merger of Geestemünde and Lehe. In 1939, Bremerhaven was incorporated into Wesermünde, but in 1947 the cities were collectively renamed as Bremerhaven and returned to the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen.
