Just before Frederikshaven, the route passes the Bangsbo Fort bunker museum.
The fortress was built by the Germans during World War II and was armed in 1944 with 15 cm guns from the cruiser Niels Juel. A total of 69 concrete installations have been built on the fort - large and small.
Frederikshavn has often played an important role in relation to wars throughout history and Pikkerbakker was almost eroded during the Second World War.
It is possible to visit the exhibition bunkers and experience interactive communication. Facilities include a cinema, traditional museum communications and interactive communications.
From the fortress there is a beautiful view over Frederikshavn and Kattegat. On a clear day you can see both Skagen and Læsø.
In Frederikshaven you drive along the Krudttårnet. The gunpowder tower is the last remnant of Fladstrand Fæstning, which was built from 1686-1690 to protect the anchorage for the fishing grounds where Frederikshavn is located. Today the gunpowder tower is home to a military history museum and is also Frederikshavn's landmark. Previously, the Gunpowder Tower stood free-standing, but was gradually embraced by the now-defunct Frederikshavn Shipyard. In 1974 it was decided to move the 4,500 ton gunpowder tower to its current location.
A little further is the Nordre Skanse. The Nordre Skanse were the first defenses at Fladstrand, built by German troops from 1627-29. Located on a natural harbor and still there is a harbor for small boats, which can be used by the inhabitants of this part of the city. The entrenchments were to protect the German troops against a naval invasion by the Danish navy. Open every day, during the day.
Denmark also has many old and striking church buildings such as the Hulsig Kirke and the Den Tilsandede Kirke.
The Hulsig Kirke was designed by architect V. Ahlmann and built to save parishioners in Hulsig the long journey to Skagen or Raabjerg Kirke (church). The church was restored in 1990 and decorated in an unconventional way by Arne L. Hansen.
Den Tilsandede kirke is the name for the tower of a former 13th-century Danish church, which has been buried under the dune sand since 1775. The church is located about a kilometer southeast of the town of Skagen, in the far north of the country. The church bears the name of the patron saint of seamen, Saint Lawrence. The dune sand from the nearby Kirkeklit Dune, part of the larger dune area of Skagen Odde, threatened the church for centuries, reaching it in 1775.
After Frederikshaven the route continues to Skagen, the northernmost point of Denmark. You must have been here to stand with two feet at once in both the Skagerrak and the Kattegat. This location also houses catering, the lighthouse, a bunker museum and Drachmanns Grav, a famous Danish painter and poet.
From Skagen the route heads south again via the west coast. You drive to Hirtshals via, among other things, the largest walking dune in Denmark and the first day is over.
In Hirtshals there is plenty to do and see, including shops, terraces, pubs, restaurants, museums, the lighthouse and the Ocenarium

13 day roundtrip South Norway
A 13-part motorcycle journey through southern Norway is like a letter to nature, where every bend and every horizon reveals a new chapter. This journey is characterized by the smell of pine forests and the sound of cascading waterfalls, while your engine rumbles softly on the winding roads that take you deeper into the Norwegian wilderness.
A highlight of this trip is Dalsnibba, where you ride above the clouds and are greeted by panoramic views of deep fjords and snow-capped mountains. It feels like the world stands still for a moment as you admire the majestic beauty of the Geirangerfjord below you.
From there, the road takes you to Geiranger, an enchanting village nestled by the fjord of the same name. As you drive along the fjord, the waterfalls – such as the famous “Seven Sisters” – seem to perform a dance. Here you feel the grandeur of nature right into your soul.
The next few days will take you along the iconic Trollstigen, the "Troll Road". With its eleven hairpin bends and steep cliffs, it is an adventure in itself. As you reach the peaks, it feels like you are touching the ancient legends of Norway itself. The silence is only broken by the rushing of mountain streams and the hum of your engine.
Another highlight of the trip is the Atlantic Road, a masterpiece of road engineering that winds gracefully over small islands and bridges, as if designed by nature itself. With the Atlantic Ocean on either side, you feel the freedom of the open water, as the sea breeze caresses your face.
Every day is filled with contrasts: deep fjords and high mountain passes, serene lakes and wild coastlines. Norwegian culture – from picturesque villages to charming mountain huts – invites you to stop and enjoy heart-warming food and friendly encounters.
This journey is not just a ride; it is an ode to adventure, connection and the pure beauty of the world. You will return not only with unforgettable memories, but also with a heart that is forever a piece of Norway.
Some of the routes include sections of gravel roads. These roads are of such a quality that they are easy to drive for everyone. Gravel roads and cabins are an integral part of the real Norwegian adventure. They offer a unique opportunity to explore the country in an authentic, intimate way, away from the hustle and bustle of paved main roads and standard tourist accommodations.
Using gravel roads and staying in cabins offers a perfect balance between adventure and relaxation. During the day you explore rugged, remote areas where asphalt ends and nature begins. In the evening you relax in a cozy cabin, where the simplicity of life and the beauty of Norway come together.
Of course, you are also free to pitch your own tent at the campsites where the routes end.
This combination makes a holiday in Norway an unforgettable experience, where you get to know the real soul of the country. It is a way to get closer to nature, challenge yourself and at the same time have a warm refuge to recharge for the next day of discoveries.
