You drive longer distances in Norway without encountering a gas station or restaurant, keep this in mind before you drive. Make sure your tank is full and bring food and drinks. Bring a few bottles of water or Camel bag and fill it up when you stop to refuel. A number of breaks are scheduled along the way for refueling, eating and drinking.
You have the choice to stay overnight at campsites or in hotels. Hotel prices in Norway are not particularly high and breakfast is usually included. Camping is free almost everywhere, except on private property or where camping is prohibited, indicated by prohibition signs. If you don't want to camp, there are often cabins for rent on the campsites. For a trip through Norway it is always advisable to bring a tent and other camping gear.
I rate this route with 5 **** stars because of the beautiful roads, beautiful nature and some beautiful places to stop. This route can also be split into two days to take a whale watching boat trip

Shortly after departure we can fill the tanks at RP2 for the route of approximately 300 kilometers. About 1 hour's drive from Straumsjøen is the coastal town of Stø (RP3), a small traditional fishing village with 200 inhabitants. Stø is teeming with life from May to August thanks to the annual Greenland Halibut fishery. You can plan a whale watching boat trip here. In the harbor is Arctic Whale Tours, the reception is located in a large, red building with paintings of whales on the pier in the middle of the harbor, not to be missed.
If you book this Whale Watching trip, it is advisable to stay overnight in Stø at camping Bobilcamp, which offers all facilities and a cafe for campers and caravans. Apartment rental is also possible. Another option is Gunnartangen Rorbuer just a 2 minute walk from the Arctic Whale Tours office, they rent out stylish and cozy cabins at Stø harbor.
Arctic Whale Tours offers you a unique whale safari experience. Whale and bird watching in one unforgettable adventure! Their main aim is to provide the visitors with a unique opportunity to observe marine animals in their natural environment and to disseminate knowledge about their behavior and biology.
On the way there is the option to visit the Øksnes museum (RP5), here learn how fishing has been a way of life in Øksnes since the Stone Age. Using archaeological finds and sites, along with written sources, we can trace the developments in the fishing villages from the Stone Age to the current fishing center of Myre.
The old farmhouse on site dates back to the mid-17th century and is one of the oldest wooden buildings in Northern Norway. In the farmhouse you can enjoy the historic atmosphere with a cup of coffee.
We drive on beautiful provincial roads such as the Fv939 and Fv821 through a beautiful landscape with great panoramas over the fjords. On the way to the ferry in Andenes we pass a number of beautiful high concrete bridges such as the Sortlandsbridge RP7 and the Andøybridge (RP8).
There are a number of parking spaces along the route where you can stop for short breaks and to enjoy the view. A good example is the Bukkekjerka View Point at RP9 and Kleivodden View Point (RP15). Lunch is planned in Bleik at Smia Pub and Café (RP12), recognizable by the image of Lady Liberty on the facade.
Another interesting point to visit is the Spaceship Aurora Museum (RP16). Learn about the Northern Lights, the Universe and the Andøya Space Center at the Spaceship Aurora learning and experience center. Here you can participate in the virtual space mission Journey to Mars, or take up the challenge in our escape room ESCAPE 42. Our films and exhibitions give you a unique insight into the activities at Andøya Space Center, Norway's only operational space center.
At RP17 we board the ferry from Andenes to Gryllefjord, the journey takes 1 hour 40 minutes, so ideal for resting on deck and enjoying the panorama. In Gryllefjord there is a gas station to fill up your motorbikes for the next day. From the harbor it is just under 50 kilometers to the final destination in Senjahopen, where we spend the night in Mefjord Brygge Hotel and Apartments.
