Favaritx Lighthouse
Don't leave Menorca without seeing its seven imposing lighthouses, eternal guardians of the sea, built to prevent shipwrecks and other maritime disasters. If you want to disconnect from the world and enjoy the best beach parties and sunsets on the island like never before, take this route on two or four wheels, grab your number and go. 100% recommended.
The island of Menorca has a large number of lighthouses, which you can go and see and we recommend that you do so, as you will be able to contemplate the landscapes and views of the Mediterranean Sea and the fauna of the island.
You can travel almost the entire island from lighthouse to lighthouse without forgetting the most important thing: enjoying the road, enjoying the breeze and the smell of the sea while driving your motorcycle or car.
The route will take you to a total of 7 lighthouses, of which 3 are located within the municipality of Ciutadella, one in Mahón, another in El Castillo, another in San Luis, and another in El Mercadal.
Below is a list of the 7 lighthouses:
-1 Ciutadella Lighthouse, welcome to Ciutadella.
The light situated at the entrance to the natural harbour of Ciutadella is the second point that directs its flashes towards the neighbouring island of Mallorca. However, the reason for its construction, in 1861, was to announce the proximity of the shelter for ships passing through the Menorca channel. Its name, “La Farola”, also called the Ciutadella Lighthouse, gives an idea of this practical function of lighting, rather than warning of the nearby coast. Despite the fact that, with its 13-metre tower, it can cover up to 14 nautical miles.
The small lighthouse, which sits at the northern end of the entrance to the port of Ciutadella, was a pioneer in Menorca with its change to an electrical system in 1918. Exposure to westerly storms forced, over the years, the structure of the building to be reinforced, because water easily reaches the facilities.
-2 Punta Nati Lighthouse (Citadel)
This shipyard, opened in 1913, is located very close to Ciutadella, in the north-west corner of the island. It is considered one of the most famous lighthouses in Menorca, due to the arid and wild landscape over which it protects ships. Enjoy some of the steepest cliffs on the island, because they will remain etched in your retina forever.
-3 Artrutx Lighthouse (Citadel)
Don't miss the second tallest lighthouse in Menorca (34 metres), located just 10 kilometres from Ciutadella, very close to Cala Bosch and Cala Son Xoriguer. Want a great plan? Watch the spectacular sunset from the restaurant's terrace. A must-see, with or without company.
-4 Aire Island Lighthouse (San Luis)
The oldest lighthouse in Menorca is not on the island itself, but on a neighbouring islet: Isla del Aire (1850). In addition, this lighthouse is also the tallest, with a height of 35.3 metres and a spiral staircase of 175 steps. Look! It is only accessible by boat, although you can enjoy it from the coast on your motorbike or rental car in Menorca.
-5 Punta San Carlos Lighthouse (The Castle)
Do you want to be amazed by one of the best views of the port of Mahón? Get on your rental motorbike and step on the accelerator, because you must visit one of the oldest lighthouses in Menorca (1852). However, it is one of the least known constructions, due to its modest appearance and restricted access, as it is located within the ruins of the Castle of San Felipe.
-6 Favaritx Lighthouse (Mahón)
This lighthouse is one of the most peculiar on the island, as it rests on a “lunar” and wild environment, a landscape composed of black rocks and strong waves. It was built in 1922 and offers visitors a mystical atmosphere and the wild beauty of Menorcan nature. Park your motorbike, because your visit will leave you speechless. Promised
-7 Cape Cavalry Lighthouse (El Mercadal)
It is undoubtedly one of the most photographed lighthouses in Menorca. The reason? There are several. Firstly, because of its history (1857), it has witnessed more than 700 shipwrecks. Not bad. In addition, it has a privileged location, since it is built at the northernmost point of the island and is visible from practically any point on the north coast. And finally, it boasts an unrivalled landscape, desert with majestic cliffs, lashed by the Tramuntana wind. Incredible.
And finally, we can enjoy Menorcan cuisine in a restaurant that has been offering traditional island cuisine for years: Restaurante Mesón Can Jaume in the beautiful village of El Mercadal.

Menorca
About this region
Menorca or Minorca (from Latin: Insula Minor, lit. 'smaller island', later Minorica) is one of the Balearic Islands located in the Mediterranean Sea belonging to Spain. Its name derives from its size, contrasting it with nearby Mallorca. Its capital is Mahón (Catalan: Maó), situated on the island's eastern end, although Menorca is not a province and forms a political union with the other islands in the archipelago. Ciutadella and Mahón are the main ports and largest towns. The port of Mahón is the second biggest natural port in the world.
Menorca had a population of 96,733 at the Census of 1 January 2021, which rose to an official estimated total of 99,005 at 1 January 2023. It is located 39°47' to 40°00'N, 3°52' to 4°24'E. Its highest point, called El Toro (from Catalan "turó" meaning hill), roughly in the middle of the island, is 358 metres (1,175 feet) above sea level.
