This round trip route in the Picos de Europa has everything; Breathtaking scenery, Incredibly twisty roads, deep river gorges and is virtually traffic free.

From the start at Potes, the magnificent N-621 follows the Vega de Liebanna Valley for 5 kms, around gentle bends and with the mountains in the distance getting ever closer. The road changes and becomes more thrilling after the first hairpin bend at Vada. It climbs higher and higher getting spectacular views around every corner as it makes it's way to the huge reservoir at Riaño. Here you can look at the water and take a rest, there is fuel here too.
From here we take another great road, the N-625, the route follows this for 64 km. It will climb to a height of 1280m at Puerto del Pontón, the highest point of this route and pass through the amazing gorge of Desfiladero de los Beyos with its vertical rock sides. For this route, the N-625 ends at Cangas de Onís, which has a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants making it an ideal lunch stop. It also has a crazy roman footbridge over the river Sella which you must visit.

After lunch, the route takes the AS-114 travelling through countryside and villages. Your eyes are in for a nice surprise as you go around the corner after Canales. The vista opens up again and the road becomes a balcony road, clinging onto the side of the mountain making the journey even more exciting. The route follows this limestone gorge, following the course of the River Cares, in some places the rock overhangs the road. The River Cares joins the River Deva at Panes which is where this route makes it's last turn, back onto the N-621 and back to Potes. 3 roads, 200 kms of riding or driving heaven!
