Leaving the medieval walled city of Carcassonne behind, you will enter the foothills of the Massif Central, the mountains rise up to the skies before opening out onto sprawling vineyards. Haut-Languedoc benefits from an exceptional geographical location: lakes, gorges, valleys, peaks and villages. Haut-Languedoc has a rich natural heritage in a land of character, a must for nature lovers. Driving alongside the Gorges de la Cesse will take you to the 13th-century fortified village of Minerve, with Pre-Roman and Roman heritage. Minerve is completely touristique today, and for a very good reason and is said to be one of the most beautiful villages of France. Minerve sits on a high, rocky spur overlooking a deep gorge in a wild and open forested area.

If you don't stop for a coffee at Minerve, there is another stop just 5 mins along the road. You will then use the D907 to head north. This is a good motorcycle road with lots of bends and a fairly good road surface. The D908 is next and you will follow the Le Jaur River valley and then the River Orb to Hérépian. I have suggested a lunch stop here at a McDonald's but there are other places to eat nearby.
After lunch the route travels on smaller roads, along river gorges, wooded hillsides and vineyards as it makes it's way to Roquefort-sur-Soulzon made famous by the lovely soft, blue, sheep cheese. only those cheeses aged in the natural Combalou caves of Roquefort-sur-Soulzon can be called Roquefort. There is a museum and you can visit the caves.
From here, you are just 20 mins away from joining the A75 Autoroute to cross over the incredible Millau Viaduct. The toll for this in 2025 is 6.50 € for motorcycles. The bridge has been consistently ranked as one of the greatest engineering achievements of all time, it is the tallest bridge in the world having a structural height of 343 metres. After crossing it, the route visits the viewing area on the north side before taking you to the Hotel in the centre of Millau.
