In July 2016 I made this trip together with 5 motorcycle friends. The Scottish highlands are very beautiful. You can enjoy the beautiful views and hilly landscapes.
The routes are about 200 km long and along the way you have plenty of opportunities to stop a number of times and visit special places.
A visit to the Border distillery is highly recommended.
The roads wind through the beautiful Scottish Highlands and the views are fantastic, so the rating of 5 stars is certainly justified.

The Border Distellery
After about 1.5 hours it is time to drink a cup of coffee. A great opportunity for this is The Waterwheel Cafe, which is located on the left side of the road just after the town of Selkirk.
After coffee, about a kilometer or 5 further, it is recommended to stop to take some nice pictures of an old ruin "Newark Castle", also called Newark Tower. It is a ruined fifteenth century castle, situated in the grounds of the nineteenth century Bowhill House.
The roads remain beautiful and if a rain shower has fallen, after which a kind of fog has hung between the mountains, the view gets an extra dementia.
You can then have lunch at Tushielaw inn, a nice restaurant with a possibility to spend the night.
After lunch you will arrive after about 25 kilometers in the town of Hawick, where a fairly young distillery is located.
The distillery was founded in 2018 by owner John Fordyce, they make both single malt and blended whisky.
The Border Distillery is located in a renovated 19th century textile factory and has a modern production with copper stills and bespoke casks. The company uses locally sourced Barley and water from the restricted Teviot River to produce the whisky.
The Border Distillery's whiskeys are aged in a variety of casks, including bourbon, sherry and wine casks. The company focuses on producing high quality whiskeys and the characteristics of the local environment.
In addition to producing whisky, The Border Distillery also offers tours and tastings for visitors. During these experiences, visitors can tour the distillery and learn about whiskey processing, followed by a tasting of the distillery's various whiskeys.
The Border Distillery is a relatively new player in the Scotch whiskey industry, but has already established a reputation for producing high quality whiskies. The company has also helped revive the local economy in Hawick and the Scottish Borders region.
After the distillery visit, get back on your bike and feel the wind in your face as you ride the winding roads from Hawick to Stannersburn. It is beautiful and you are in complete harmony with the nature around you.
After about 50 kilometers you will come to Kielder Castle, a former hunting lodge located in Kielder Forest, in the north of Northumberland. The building was built in 1775 and originally belonged to the Dukes of Northumberland. In 1955 the building was purchased by the Forestry Commission and converted into a visitor center for Kielder Forest.
The castle is a major underground attraction and serves as a base for activities in the area, including hiking, cycling and fishing. The building also provides information about the flora and fauna of Kielder Forest as well as the history of the forest and the surrounding area.
In 2006, the castle was renovated and refurbished to create a modern and sustainable visitor center. The new design uses sustainable materials and energy-efficient technologies and offers visitors an interactive and educational experience.
In addition to the visitor center, there is also a restaurant and gift shop located in Kasteel Kielder. The building is also the starting point of several walking and cycling routes that run through Kielder Forest.
Kielder Castle is an important part of Kielder Forest's history and tourism and remains a popular destination for visitors wishing to explore the beautiful surroundings.
Motorcycling along Scotland's Kielder Water is a great experience for those who love scenic roads and beautiful views. Kielder Water is a large reservoir in the north of Northumberland, close to the border with Scotland. The area around the lake is ideal for exploring by motorbike because of the winding roads, challenging slopes and the breathtaking views. It is also a popular road among motorcyclists due to its numerous curves and hills, as well as offering spectacular views of the Scottish Borders region.
After this it is only a short drive to the overnight stay The Pheasant Inn. Here you can enjoy another beautiful route!

About this region
The points of the compass are an evenly spaced set of horizontal directions (or azimuths) used in navigation and geography. A compass rose is primarily composed of four cardinal directions—north, east, south, and west—each separated by 90 degrees, and secondarily divided by four ordinal (intercardinal) directions—northeast, southeast, southwest, and northwest—each located halfway between two cardinal directions. Some disciplines such as meteorology and navigation further divide the compass with additional azimuths. Within European tradition, a fully defined compass has 32 'points' (and any finer subdivisions are described in fractions of points).Compass points are valuable in that they allow a user to refer to a specific azimuth in a colloquial fashion, without having to compute or remember degrees.
