You drive through the national parks of Sallandse Heuvelrug, Posbank and Hoge Veluwe, but also over beautiful winding dike roads along the IJssel.
I rate this route with 5*****Stars, because you drive on a mix of provincial and local roads (all paved). You drive through heathland, forests, over dikes, so enough bends to enjoy.

National Park the Posbank
You drive on a mix of provincial and local roads (all paved). You drive through heaths, forests, over dikes, the Hoge Veluwe, Sallandse Heuvelrug and Posbank. Enough bends to enjoy yourself. There are a number of ferries on the route. Along the route there are a number of options to take a break or to visit sights. A recommendation is Teuge airport, a good menu and nice surroundings to stop for lunch while watching sports planes, gliders and parachutists. At the airport there is also an Iljuschin IL-18 airfield that has been converted into a hotel and a North American fighter plane F-86F Sabre at the Skydeck.
Along the route you will see many beautiful castles and other monuments. There are also a number of museums that you could visit, a real recommendation for motorcyclists is a visit to the American Motorcycle Museum in Raalte. This American Motorcycle Museum (AMM) with its unique collection of American motorcycles from Max and Ans Middelbosch, opened its doors on April 30, 2004 in Raalte in Salland. The exhibited collection offers an extensive overview of American motorcycle history from the early 1900s to the 1980s and houses beautiful rarities. The neighbors have delicious apple pie and nice coffee.
Other interesting sights include Radio Kootwijk, a former transmitter park on the Veluwe, west of the town of Apeldoorn, which formed an important communication link between the Netherlands and its former colonies, particularly the Dutch East Indies, in the first half of the 20th century. It was built from 1918 onwards. Housing was also built for employees, which together formed the village of the same name. This monumental former transmitter station rises in the heart of the Veluwe, where the trees made way for an open area of heathland and sand shifts. The characteristic and imposing building in Art Deco style stands in the middle of a natural environment. There is space here for both relaxation and business meetings and events. For most people it is an imposing and characteristic building, for others a lump of concrete and unheimisch. It is a special piece of Cultural Heritage.
Nature reserve de Holterberg is a hilly area, which is part of the National Park Sallandse Heuvelrug. The Holterberg owes its name to the Overijssel village of Holten, which lies to the south of this area. In the north, this area borders the Haarlerberg and Noetselerberg. This nature reserve includes many heathlands that are alternated with extensive (coniferous) forests. You drive through a beautiful nature reserve here, keep to the speed limit and take others into account and enjoy nature.
The Veluwezoom National Park with the Posbank. Enjoy the beautiful winding roads and beautiful nature. Drive calmly, take into account others and the animals that can spontaneously cross. Be sure to stop for a drink and to enjoy the beautiful view. Please note that this Park is closed to motorized traffic on weekends and after sunset, so you will have to adjust the route and follow the N785 to Rozendaal, where you will rejoin the route, you will have to skip two Via points.
Staverden Castle and Estate is a very beautiful estate where you can relax on the terrace at the Brasserie with something tasty. This is a popular wedding location, so it can be very busy.
I like to drive this in the fall, because of the beautiful colors, leave early, because it is a long drive and with the approach route you are on the road all day. Also the Sallandse Heuvelrug and Posbank are closed after sunset.
Tip: drive it during the week, because it is very busy at the weekend and parts of the route are closed.

De Hoge Veluwe National Park
About this region
De Hoge Veluwe National Park is a Dutch national park in the province of Gelderland near the cities of Ede, Wageningen, Arnhem and Apeldoorn. It is approximately 55 km2 (14,000 acres; 21 sq mi) in area, consisting of heathlands, sand dunes, and woodlands. It is situated in the Veluwe, the area of the largest terminal moraine in the Netherlands. Most of the landscape of the park and the Veluwe was created during the last Ice Age. The alternating sand dune areas and heathlands may have been caused by human utilization of the surrounding lands. The park forms one of the largest continuous nature reserves in the Netherlands.

The 10 most beautiful car and motorcycle routes in the Netherlands
These 10 routes in the Netherlands have been carefully selected, checked and made equal for TomTom, Garmin and MyRoute-app Navigation by a MyRoute-app RouteXpert. The 10 most beautiful motorcycle and car routes in the Netherlands are always a snapshot, and a personal opinion of the reviewer. This does not alter the fact that every lover of beautiful roads and interesting sights will enjoy these routes.
The ten routes are spread over 10 provinces, we only skipped Flevoland and South Holland. Interesting routes can also be found in the MyRoute app RouteXpert library, but we still want to stick to the 10 most beautiful and not the 12 most beautiful.
Enjoy the many fortresses and castles that are included in the routes, such as Fort Veldhuis in North Holland. But also take a look at the route southeast of Nijmegen and visit the impressive Canadian War Cemetery and Memorial. The route 'Overijssel in bird's eye view' includes the oldest house in the Netherlands and the route along the IJssel is probably the most beautiful piece of asphalt in the Netherlands.
This way there is something for everyone in this route collection. If you do not agree with these 10 routes, please send us an e-mail, indicate which route(s) should be removed and which route you would like to see instead. Maybe your route will be included in this collection of the 10 most beautiful routes in the Netherlands!
