This route is from the Biker Betten website. I have chosen a different starting place in Nijmegen, the oldest city in the Netherlands. This route can be driven both from the Netherlands and Germany in one day and contains a combination of culture and beautiful driving routes.

From Nijmegen you drive a few kilometers across the dike. Both the Rhine itself and the nature reserve Düffelward on the land side, where rare bird species are present, always invite small stops. You will pass the city limits of Kleve, a city with a lot of history, such as the more than 1000 years old Schwanenburg. Then you approach the imposing silhouette of the largest suspension bridge in Germany, which immediately reminds of the Golden Gate Bridge. Along the Rhine is the nuclear power plant called Kernwasser Wunderland, which was never operational and converted into an amusement park near Kalkar.

Further on in the route a chapter from Roman history opens with the city of Xanten. Remains of the former city of Colonia Ulpia Trajana and the amphitheater testify to that time. Along the river you can meet numerous bikers in the Bikercafé Rheinfähre. After crossing the hill area the "Sonsbecker Schweiz" you enter Arcen, a former fortified town with many street cafes and beautiful houses along the Maas. The brewery and the café of Hertog Jan are definitely worth a visit! You cross the river by ferry and continue the route towards National Park De Maasduinen.

Just after Weeze, a small town near the Niederrhein Airport, there is a 6.8 km long winding route that ends at Siebengewalt. We continue on small country lanes along the "Viller Mühle", where you can immerse yourself in a world that you thought was no longer there.
