Route Summary
The Trans Canada Highway, also known as TCH or Highway 1, is one of the longest highways in the world, running from Victoria on Vancouver Island in the west to St. John's in Newfoundland in the east. This is part 30 that runs from North Sydney to Corner Brook.
The Trans Canada Highway passes through all the southern provinces of the country. The route can be driven in different ways. There are namely in various alternative routes that also belong to the TCH. The total distance is around 8,000 km. We not only drive the TCH, but will take the rural roads as much as possible, because only highway driving is too boring and Canada has many beautiful roads through its beautiful landscape.
You drive through all provinces and through very varied and scenic landscapes, from the Rockies in the West, the Central Prairies to the Eastern Maritimes and the Northern Forest.
The riding season is generally April through October with longer seasons on the west coast and southern Ontario.
Provide good all season clothing or bring rain gear, depending on the province and the season the weather can change and you may be surprised by a rain or even a snow or hail shower, so be prepared.
In Canada the metric system is used, so speeds are indicated in Km / h. A helmet requirement (DOT approved) applies throughout Canada.
You will see many wildlife throughout Canada. your similar animals from province to province, such as deer, buffalos, moose, caribou, wolves, pumas, bears, mountain goats, sheep, lynx, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, badgers, various rodents and all kinds of birds.
Even if it is very tempting to stop for a photo, don't do it, it can be very dangerous.

RouteXpert Review
On day 30 we cross by ferry from Nova Scotia to New Foundland, the ferry leaves around noon between 11:45 AM and 12:30 PM and at 11:15 PM, depending on the season and day of the week. So planning well is important The crossing takes 7 hours and on New Foundland you still have 220 kilometers to drive to Corner Brook. You can plan the crossing in the evening after, for example, driving a nice ride on the day of departure or at the end of day 29 and choosing not to stay overnight in North Sydney. You can then enjoy a drink on board in one of the bars and then sleep to arrive well rested in New Foundland. If you choose to continue driving in the evenings after an afternoon crossing, keep in mind that there is no lighting along the roads, so beware.
You can also leave in the afternoon, but then it is important to book an overnight stay in Port aux Basques because you arrive between 19:00 and 20:00. More information about the ferry departure times can be found in the link at the bottom of the review. On board the ships are several restaurants and bars and if you want to sleep you can book a cabin.
The drive from Port aux Basques to Corner Brook is approximately 220 kilometers on the Trans Canada Highway NL-1. The road is a two-lane road through a very beautiful area with hills, mountains, lots of greenery, rivers and lakes. In some sections, the road is three- or four-lane to safely overtake slower vehicles.
Newfoundland was the site of a collision between the tectonic plates of the new and old world, about 400 million years ago. This has created the immense highlands of western Newfoundland and makes for the beautiful scenery with beautiful vistas, so enjoy the ride with Saint Lawrence Bay on one side and the mountains on the other.
Along the route itself is not much special to stop for. You can stop at several places to enjoy the beautiful panoramas, a number of points are marked with an RP and POI. I therefore rate this route with 3 *** Stars.
RP9 The Tolt Mountain
RP7 Billys Pond and the Twin Hills
