Route Summary I have further supplemented the Road Trip with even more special points that you can visit in the USA. Today we drive from Niagara Falls through Canada to Cleveland in Ohio. It is a drive of almost 390 kilometers with a number of beautiful stops.
We drive on beautiful country roads along the shores of Lake Erie through Canada and the states of New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Multiple stops are planned along the route for points of interest and photo opportunities.

RouteXpert Review The first part of the ride takes us a bit through Canada along the banks of the Niagara River. We drive over the beautiful “Niagara Falls International Rainbow Bridge”, better known as the “Rainbow Bridge”, an imposing arch bridge over the Niagara River gorge. This bridge connects the cities of Niagara Falls, New York, United States (to the east) and Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, in the middle of the bridge is the border. We drive on the Niagara River Parkway, from where you have a beautiful view of the beautiful waterfalls and authentic buildings. If possible and safe, you can stop to take pictures.
Along the route is the "Battle of Chippawa Park" which preserves the pristine battlefield of the last remaining site from the War of 1812. The "Battle of Chippawa", fought on July 5, 1814, was the longest and bloodiest military operation of the War of 1812 and claimed the lives of approximately 200 American, British, Canadian and Native warriors allied to both sides, of whom most are believed to have been buried on the battlefield. Definitely an option for enthusiasts to visit this park.
For beach lovers, Evangola State Park is an option to stop by. You can enjoy a day on the beautiful natural sand beach on the shore of Lake Erie. The scenic Angola shale cliffs line the rest of the park shoreline near the three camping loops. The park features swimming, several picnic shelters, a party room, grassy picnic areas, baseball diamonds, basketball and tennis courts, 80 campsites, 6 yurts, a cabin, and a nature center.
We drive back to the United States via the Peace Bridge over the Niagara River. The first stop is planned in Dunkirk where we stop at the “Dunkirk City Pier” for coffee. There is a Boardwalk Market for a snack and some gifts. The city pier has public parking and attractions. Nearby Memorial Park is a beautiful lakeside park dedicated to the city's veterans.
We continue to Erie where we stop for lunch on the Victorian Princess, a paddle steamer on which you can enjoy a lunch cruise. This 1.5 hour tour of the Presque Isle Bay offers you a beautiful view of the beautiful landscape, while enjoying delicious food provided by Oakwood Catering or Sabellas. Reservations are advised and the cost is $38 pp
On the wharf at the Victorian Princess Cruise Line you can also visit the Bicentennial Tower, which is an observation tower where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Lake Erie, Presque Isle State Park and downtown Erie. The tower was built on the occasion of the bicentenary of the city in 1996. It is 57 meters high and has 2 observation decks.
We drive through Presque Isle State Park, a 1,259-acre state park on a peninsula in Lake Erie, a sandy arc that hangs west of Erie from the mainland. She surrounds the Presque Isle Bay. The state park, with 13 miles of roads, 21 miles of trails, thirteen swimming beaches and a marina, receives several million visitors each year. The animals are protected in the Gull Point State Park Natural Area. Presque Isle State Park has been recognized as a National Historic Landmark since 1967.
After a short stop at Harley-Davidson Erie to score a poker chip, we continue to visit James A Garfield National Historic Site in Mentor, Ohio. The site preserves the Lawnfield estate and surrounding property of James Abram Garfield, the 20th President of the United States, and includes the first presidential library established in the United States, well worth a visit. Along the route, we make a brief stop at the Conneaut Railroad Museum (currently closed) to snap photos of the Nickel Plate Road 755 Locomotive. This museum is dedicated to the men and women who worked for local railroads. The Nickel Plate Road 755 was one of the last steam locomotives in Conneaut in 1958. The museum itself is housed in the former Lake Shore & Michigan Southern passenger depot built in 1900. The history of local rail is portrayed through photographs, rail artifacts, and full-format displays, and more.
We continue the drive to Cleveland, stopping along the way at “The Boulevard of 500 Flags”, a monument created to honor the veterans of the Eastlake area year round. Originally, the goal was to display 200 to 300 flags. Through the generosity of donations from veteran groups and local businesses, they raised more than $25,000 to purchase more than 500 flags, honoring 26 military personnel who were either killed in action or missing from World War I through Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In Cleveland there are a number of attractions that are worth a visit;
• NASA Glenn Visitor Center, where you will experience an amazing space experience with galleries, interactive exhibits, fascinating artifacts and great NASA media.
• The Great Lakes Science Center is a museum and educational facility in downtown Cleveland. Many of the exhibits document the characteristics of the natural environment in Great Lakes. The facility includes signature (permanent) and traveling exhibits, meeting space, a cafe, and an IMAX Dome theater.
• USS Cod Submarine Memorial, is an American Gato class submarine. The ship operated out of Australia during World War II. After World War II, the ship was placed in reserve service until 1971. From 1971 the ship was refurbished and since 1975 the ship can be viewed as a museum ship.
• The International Women's Air & Space Museum, Inc. is a museum in Cleveland, which preserves the history of women in the aerospace industry and documents their continued contributions.
• Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, this striking, angular building contains permanent and rotating exhibits that celebrate the origins of rock and roll, as well as its impact on social, political, and cultural history. Artifacts and exhibits showcase artists such as Janis Joplin, Mick Jagger, and Aretha Franklin. A must for any music lover.
Enjoy this bustling city along the river Eire and book an extra night in one of the many hotels in the center.

Trans Canada Highway
The Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) or Trans-Canadian Highway is a system of highways that cover all 10 provinces of Canada.
The Federal and Provincial Highways System that now forms the TCH were authorized by the Trans-Canada Highway Act of 1948 and opened in 1962. It was completed in 1971. The total length of the TCH is 7821 km.
Contrary to the American Interstate Highway System, the TCH does not consist of an unambiguous network of motorways, but forms a network of restricted access highways and other main routes that are more akin to the Dutch provincial roads. The route is indicated by a green shield with a white maple leaf.
The numbering of the roads that are part of the TCH is the domain of the provinces. Only the western provinces have aligned their numbering and the TCH has the designation Highway 1 there.
The main route of the TCH starts in Victoria in British Columbia and runs via Calgary and Regina to Winnipeg. From Winnipeg the route leads to Kenora in Ontario, after which several branches pass through Ontario to Ottawa.
Further east, the route passes through the province of Quebec via Montreal and Quebec, among others, to Moncton, New Brunswick. Then the TCH continues east through Nova Scotia, where a branch (via the Confederation Bridge) leads to Prince Edward Island. Another section runs down to the sea in the port city of Sydney, where a ferry service leaves for Channel-Port aux Basques on the island of Newfoundland. From there the route continues for more than 900 km to the provincial capital of St. John's, in the extreme southeast of the island.
We not only drive the TCH, but will take the rural roads as much as possible, because only Highway driving is too boring and Canada has many beautiful roads through its beautiful landscape. You drive through all provinces and through very varied and scenic landscapes, from the Rockies in the West, the Central Prairies to the Eastern Maritimes and the Northern Forest.
The riding season is generally April through October with longer seasons on the west coast and southern Ontario. Provide good all season clothing or bring rain gear, depending on the province and the season the weather can change and you may be surprised by a rain or even a snow or hail shower, so be prepared.
In Canada the metric system is used, so speeds are indicated in Km / h. A helmet requirement (DOT approved) applies throughout Canada.
You will see many wildlife throughout Canada. This varies from province to province, such as deer, buffalos, moose, caribou, wolves, pumas, bears, mountain goats, sheep, lynx, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, badgers, various rodents and all kinds of birds. Even if it is very tempting to stop for a photo, don't do it, it can be very dangerous.
The routes described in this review sometimes deviate from the Trans Canada Highway, bringing the total length to 9,300 kilometers. The routes are made so that you drive through the beautiful parts of Canada with truly beautiful panoramas and beautiful sights to visit, this differs from museums, parks to historical points. The routes are not too long so there is time to stop for photos and sights along the way. You can also choose to arrange and combine the stages differently or to add other routes to shorten or extend your journey. The routes are marked with a rating in stars, some routes are less challenging or interesting but are necessary to drive to the next point, which is why they often have a lower rating.
