A route through the Black Forest cannot really be boring. Every street, every road offers you a fantastic driving adventure or a gigantic view. You often do not know what to expect after the beautiful bend you see in front of you. The beautiful, varied environment and beautiful roads make me appreciate this route with 4 stars.

The route starts in Schonach im Schwarzwald and passes through Triberg, where there is the possibility to visit the falls. With a drop height of 163m, these are among the highest waterfalls in Germany. Definitely worth a visit. This can be done on the road, but also in the evening after a walk from the hotel.

We wind about 70 km through the Black Forest on beautifully landscaped roads, through seemingly ancient forests. There seems to be no end. But the changing landscape and the beautiful curves ensure that it remains fascinating.

Under Bonndorf, the route passes Ruine Steinegg. The Steinegg Castle is the ruin of a hilltop castle at an altitude of 720m. The castle was built in the 12th century by the lords of Steinegg, who were supporters of the dukes of Zähringen. After the lords of Steinegg became extinct, the castle became the property of the Nellenburgs. After several ownership changes, the castle was destroyed in 1525 during the Boer War, as was Roggenbach castle, 400m away.
Several parts of the Steinegg Castle have been preserved, including the rest of a six-meter-high wall and the 20-meter deep trench.
To visit these ruins a walk of about 3 kilometers is necessary!

The route winds kilometers further on the L159, up to Tiengen, but before the route crosses this place you can first enjoy a well-deserved cup of coffee.

After Tiengen has passed, the route passes the Museum of the Little Oldieträume in Ühlingen-Birkendorf. The small museum displays an extensive private collection of everyday consumer goods on approximately 100 m².
In addition to radios, irons, cooking appliances and technical equipment from a bygone era in the 19th and 20th centuries, mopeds from the 1950s are central to the exhibition. A world record was even set with 160 mopeds of all well-known brands (Achilles to Zündapp), of which only a third can unfortunately be seen due to lack of space.
The more than 35 years of collecting and restoring work by Herbert Riegger and his family are supported by the "Association for the Conservation of Old Consumer Goods e. V.". In particular, the museum sees itself as a meeting place for old fans, special exhibitions take place regularly (eg Miele, carnival mask exhibition etc.).
The museum is open every 1st Saturday and Sunday of the month from April to November. Special tours are possible after appointment by telephone. Admission is free, a donation is requested.

The route winds further north. After the town of Birkendorf it is possible to visit the Mühlenmuseum. Right next to the mill museum, where you can immerse yourself in a world like 100 years ago and learn about the time and the path from grain to flour, a lovingly decorated mill shop has been built. Here regional specialties come together with exclusive, homemade products and unique memorabilia and attractive souvenirs. And for the small sweet tooth and the big connoisseur, ice cream, coffee and the Zäpfle, one of the best beers in the Black Forest await.

The Schluchsee, where the route passes, is a reservoir near St. Blasien in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. It is the largest in the Black Forest. The 63-meter-high dam was constructed from high-density concrete between 1929 and 1932. Walking over the dam gives a beautiful view over the lake. Shortly after the Schluchtsee - the route goes south again - the Albstausee comes into view. The Albstausee or the Albbecken (Albtalsperre) is a reservoir in the valley of the Alb in the southern Black Forest. It is part of the pump storage network Schluchseewerk AG Laufenburg and is located between Schluchsee and Rhine near Waldshut. The dam construction is a dam of 28 m high. A short walk on a dam always produces a nice photo!

At Tiefenstein the route reaches the southernmost point, from there it turns north again on the L153. Alpine panorama Segents is also located along this L153. This viewpoint offers an admirable view over the valley. It's a shame to pass it by, it is definitely worth a stop.

Further on, in Oberlehen, the route passes the Holzschneflermusuem Resenhof. When you enter the low living room of the Resenhof via the threshold, it is a step back in time. The one-roofed courtyard of Hochschwarzwald is over 200 years old, was built in 1789 and has been preserved in its original state. Farmer Rese Hans lived there until 1976 and since 1977 it has been a museum. Nowhere else in the Black Forest is the subject "Working with wood" presented so vividly! The craft of woodcarving is portrayed with much love and dedication.

The route runs in this part of the Black Forest over a number of 'mountain passes', including the Wacht (973m) and the Rotes Kreuz (1090m). However, the 'roof of the Black Forest' is the Feldberg. This highest mountain of the Black Forest is 1493m. The route does not get that high, it ends at the Feldbergpass with an altitude of 1231m. The terrace of hotel Kokoschinski offers a great view, which is reason to enjoy a cup of coffee or something else there. The alcohol-free Weizen is also doing very well!

After leaving the highest point, the Titisee comes into view. The Titisee is a lake with an area of ​​1.3 km² and has an average depth of 20m. Although they are large dimensions, it is certainly not the largest lake in this area. Nevertheless, many tourists come every year. There is always plenty to do at the lake. The most popular activity is a walk around the lake. The nearby Hochfirst mountain offers a viewing tower at 1,192 meters. A hike from the lake to this point is also highly recommended. Cycling in the region is a popular choice, although this requires considerable effort because of the height differences. It is also good to stay on the water. For example, it is possible to take a boat trip, in a large tour boat or, for example, in a pedal boat. Swimming in the lake is possible, but there are also swimming pools around the lake.

After all this beauty, the route is almost coming to an end. Just before Schonach im Schwarzwald is reached, it is possible to stop at the Langenwaldschanze. This is a 106m high ski jump that has been around for almost 100 years. The ramp is in fact built in 1924. Remodeled several times over the years to meet the latest requirements and wishes. In 2010, for example, the redoubt was increased by 2.25 million euros.
Nice to take a look at this rather immense building. In addition, the hill on which the ramp is built offers a beautiful view of Schonach im Schwarzwald.
