RouteXpert Review
On day 7 of our Ireland trip we drove from Killarny via beautiful country roads and we went to Kinsale. Along the way you pass Molls Gap (RP2), Ladies View (RP3) and the Healy Pass (RP8) where you definitely have to stop at RP9 for the view. After the Healy Pass you follow the coast to Glengarriff (RP13) a typical small Irish village in Cork County.
With RP13 you have 2 options; you can follow the N71 to RP18 where you continue the route or you turn left and take the route that we have driven. Follow the N71 north to Bunane (RP15) where you follow the signs for Priest's Leap.
Note Priest's Leap is a very narrow winding route with partly very bad road surfaces, but the surroundings and the view at the top are spectacular. Many people do not dare to drive here because of possible oncoming traffic. Google but once and read the reviews about this piece of road; you love it or you hate it. We enjoyed!
At RP18 you are back on the N71 and you drive to Bantry, this is a beautiful village with nice pubs and restaurants so ideal to take a break. At RP20, TomTom and Garmin disagree with each other but that is in a place where only driving direction is possible.
After Bantry you follow the R591 along the coast with beautiful views over the bay and the peninsulas.
At RP23 you can possibly turn right for a narrow route along the coast, at RP25 you come back on the original route to Mizen Head (RP29).
Mizen Head is a signal post with a beautiful view of the rocky coast. You have to walk a bit from the parking lot. Via a footbridge you reach the headland where the signal post is located. This is a tourist attraction so it can be busy.
From Mizen Head it then goes along the coast via a small village to Kinsale. Take the time to stop on the way and enjoy the view.
Kinsale is a beautiful town with many hotels, pubs and restaurants on the Bandon River, so a great place to stay.
We enjoyed this ride and therefore 5 stars.
