Grand Canyon
Route 11/15 of a three-week round trip through the west of America. From Page via the Grand Canyon to Williams.
Departure from the hotel via HWY 89 in a southerly direction. As at waypoint 2, we pass the first outing of the day: Horsshoe Bend. At route point 3 we pass the Water Holes Canyon, an alternative to the overcrowded and expensive but more beautiful Antelope Canyons. (Note: During our trip the Canyons were unfortunately closed).
After passing the Little Colorado River at Cameron we turn right onto the SR 64 towards Grand Canyon. On the way to RP 7 - the Visitor Center / Grand Canyon Village we pass a number of beautiful viewpoints such as RP 4 Lipan Point, RP 5 Grandview Point and RP 6 Duck on a rock.
From the Visitor Center there are several walking routes along the South Rim. It is also possible to rent bikes here for a ride towards Hermits Rest. Are you all this too tiring then you can also opt for the free shuttle buses in the park. When we are tired, we continue SR 64 in a southerly direction to drive to Williams via Tusayan.
If you have seen little or no wildlife during the past few days and have some time and inclination, you can visit the beautiful Bearizona (entrance) at route point 13, an animal park where you can visit wolves, bears, bison, mountain goats and other animals are driving.
The endpoint for today is Williams, located on Route 66.
