RouteXpert Review
Route, text and photos of MRA Goldmember André ter Schegget. All route points were checked and the route was equalized for Garmin and TT. Beautiful nature and winding roads of course provide the 5 * Route 06/15 of a three-week round trip through the west of America, from Oakhurst to Exeter.
From Oakhurst we depart over smaller but beautiful roads to the Kings Canyon National Park and the Sequoia National Park. There is a lot to see in both national parks (NP). The giant Sequoia trees are very well known and you also have beautiful viewpoints and waterfalls. Many bears live in this area. It is therefore urgently recommended that food be stored properly. Take especially time in these parks. The driving time on this winding road from Squaw Valley to Three Rivers is at least 2.5 hours on quiet days. Access to these National Parks is paying.
A few highlights:
RP 7 - measured by volume-largest tree in the world, the General Sherman Tree.
This giant sequoia is between 2300 and 2700 years old and is located in the so-called Giant Forest. Here are five of the ten largest trees in the world. RP 8 is the Giant Forest Museum. From here we make an extra loop along Moro Rock RP 9 (here the TT and the Garmin do not agree, just follow the road), Parker Group RP 10, Tunnel Log RP 11
and finally Crescent Meadow RP 13. Here we used to skip point from RP 12 to RP 13 as the TT does not have a way here. You just follow the route that is in a loop.
Then back to Generals HWY, beautiful winding road towards the end of today.
** A national park is a park where nature is protected. The state recognizes the national significance of such a park and guarantees protection. The term was coined in the US around 1870. Shortly thereafter, the Yellowstone National Park was founded in a special area with geysers and bison, among others. (Wikipedia). **
