Lunch stop at Valley of Rocks.
After just a few miles we turn off of the main road to visit The Children's Hospital South West at Little Bridge House.
As you enter Little Bridge House please KEEP TO THE RIGHT (wrong side of road) this allows a smooth flow of Minis into and back out again.
There will be some of the children, parents and staff outside and the smiles on their faces show just how pleased they all are to see you.
We regroup at Landkey, but please be aware of the 30 mph speed limit before Landkey as you join the A377 at Bishop's Tawton roundabout. Also beware of the small narrow lane that takes you from Bishop's Tawton to Landkey.
After the re-group and quick drink stop at Landkey, we head towards Exmoor on some very small lanes - even small for a Mini!
Blackmoor Gate marks the western edge of Exmoor National Park and you'll find public toilets here in the car park.
Follow the A39 to Barbrook then turn left to Lynton and follow the course of the West Lyn river through a beautiful river valley that's been declared a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Lynton can be busy with people, all waving and cheering and some on the road so please take care. The magnificent Valley of Rocks is arguably the most spectacular scenic location on Exmoor, and this is where we have a quick lunch break.
After Lunch, we ascend to the top of the cliffs via Sir Robert's Path, a steep and twisty very narrow road that clings onto the cliff edge and is better than any roller coaster! Check out the views across the Bristol Channel at the top.
We're not on the top for long before going down another steep and twisty lane to The Hunters Inn. Here we join the enchanting Heddon Valley that has a magical charm about it and will eventually take us back to the cliff tops and back down again to Combe Martin. Once again, the streets can be very busy, here we will pass the 'famous' Pack of Cards Inn as we make our way to the coast. Following the road along the coast, passing Watermouth Castle and the Coastguard Cottages and onto Ilfracombe High Street.
2021 and 2022 are different to normal as we won't be stopping at Capstone Park in Ilfracombe, instead, we take the scenic route back to the campsite at Watertown, Appledore.
As we leave Ilfracombe we will re-group on the hill up to Mullacott Cross where we'll make use of the nearside lane. PLEASE DO NOT GET OUT OF YOUR CARS HERE.
Terry and the bike marshals will take you left at Mullacott roundabout and then we'll turn right at the Texaco garage (new roundabout) and head for Muddiford and then Barnstaple. Here we join the A39 back to the campsite.
Have a really fantastic day, thank you for coming and helping to raise what I hope will be a record amount for The Children's Hospice South West.
Open the map for this route by clicking 'Use Route'.
A popup box will open in front of the map. You can choose to 'Save as .gpx 1.1 (route, track, POI)' this will download the .gpx files to your download folder on your PC or Mac which can then be uploaded to whichever GPS device you use for satellite navigation.
Closing the popup box allows you to zoom in and look at the route in detail.
If you open the map or have a printed out .pdf version of this route, you'll see that the route point markers have different colours.
Blue ones are used just to shape the route.
Yellow indicates something that can be seen from that position.
Red are used for stops (Minis and Marshals).
Pink indicates information or warnings.
A little information regarding the motorcycle marshals and collectors:
Please keep an eye on your mirrors for them at all times as the motorcycles will need to overtake you to get to the next junction or turn. There is NO NEED to slow down for them, they will overtake when they think it is safe to do so, just keep to the left please. They do a tough (but enjoyable) job and appreciate the odd wave too.
Above all else, stay safe and have a fantastic North Devon Legendary Grand Tour.
Thank you for coming and helping to raise the huge amount of much needed funding for The Children's Hospice South West.
The link for the .gpx files for Saturday's evening cruise and Sundays mini Run can be found below.

Drink stop and re-group.

Working the crowds.

About this region
The points of the compass are an evenly spaced set of horizontal directions (or azimuths) used in navigation and geography. A compass rose is primarily composed of four cardinal directions—north, east, south, and west—each separated by 90 degrees, and secondarily divided by four ordinal (intercardinal) directions—northeast, southeast, southwest, and northwest—each located halfway between two cardinal directions. Some disciplines such as meteorology and navigation further divide the compass with additional azimuths. Within European tradition, a fully defined compass has 32 'points' (and any finer subdivisions are described in fractions of points).Compass points are valuable in that they allow a user to refer to a specific azimuth in a colloquial fashion, without having to compute or remember degrees.
