This fifth route takes you from Nafplio, via Epidaurusde, the Corinth Canal, a 70 km long coastal road to Diakofto and then via THE MYTHICAL 'GREAT OF THE LAKES' to the end point at Kleitoria.
Also in this route a variety of roads, from a very tight road surface to an unpaved path. But you will notice that it is not a punishment, you get value for money. And for train enthusiasts, you can take a spectacular trip through a beautiful gorge. Watch out for the road surface, because it is not of very good quality in some places..
The great environment and beautiful views ensure that this route deserves 4 stars.

Corinth Canal
Then you go via a nice tourist route to the old bridge over the Corinth Canal. The Corinth Canal is a man-made canal, connecting the Gulf of Corinth in the Ionian Sea to the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. The canal was dug through the isthmus at sea level and has no locks. It is 6.4 kilometers (4 miles) long and only 21.4 meters (70 feet) wide at the base, making it impassable for many modern ships. There you have to stop to take some pictures. There is also an opportunity to have a drink at one of the cafes present.
Via a short stretch of highway, you head towards the coast, and then the coastline to Diakofto. Plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs along the coast, or to take a dip.
In Diakofto you can choose to travel the famous cogwheel railway to the mountain village of Kalavrita. Here is the Vouraikos Gorge, with its spectacular caves, beautiful villages and historic monasteries. The train departs from Diakofto train station, which goes through the Vouraikos gorge to Kalavrita. The special feature of the track is that it is a cogwheel railway and has a line width of only 75 cm. It is one of the narrowest railway lines in Greece. A cogwheel railway is a railway with an extra rail with teeth in the middle. The cogwheel train has a gear that meshes with the teeth of the center rail and moves the train in this way. Kalavrita is located 750 meters above sea level. The train takes about 60 minutes to cover a distance of 22 kilometers and runs five times a day, all year round, regardless of the weather. In the middle of the route, after 12 kilometers, the train stops at the village of Kato Zachlorou, where you can visit the historic Monastery of Mega Spileo. The price for a return ticket is €19 per person. You can of course also choose to have lunch in Diakofto alone and continue driving.
Pretty soon after Diakofto you dive into the interior, pay attention, the roads are of lesser quality! This road also takes you to the Vouraikos gorge, so plenty of moments along the way to hold the camera. The last stop you can make before reaching the end point is at the Cave Lakes of Kastria Cave, small or larger lakes, 13 in total, one after the other, with land areas alternating with the lakes until the end of the cave , in a total length of about 2 km (1980 metres) and an area of 20,000 m². And here again an opportunity to eat or drink something.
Once you arrive at the hotel, you can choose to drive on to refuel before diving into the hotel pool.

Peloponnese
About this region
The Peloponnese () or Peloponnesus (; Greek: Πελοπόννησος, romanized: Pelopónnēsos, IPA: [peloˈponisos]) is a peninsula and geographic region in southern Greece. It is connected to the central part of the country by the Isthmus of Corinth land bridge which separates the Gulf of Corinth from the Saronic Gulf. During the late Middle Ages and the Ottoman era, the peninsula was known as the Morea (Byzantine Greek: Μωρέας), a name still in colloquial use in its demotic form (Greek: Μωριάς).
The peninsula is divided among three administrative regions: most belongs to the Peloponnese region, with smaller parts belonging to the West Greece and Attica regions.
