Route Summary I have further supplemented the Road Trip with even more special points that you can visit in the USA. Today we leave Yellowstone National Park and drive south to Pinedale via “The Teton Scenic Loop” through Teton National Park. There are many scenic views along the route and the chance to see bison, deer, various species of bears, coyotes, and wolves.
The route is on beautiful winding roads with beautiful viewpoints. There are many opportunities to stop to take pictures and on the way there are two museums to visit. I therefore rate this route with 5 stars.

RouteXpert Review The best drive through Grand Teton National Park is along the Scenic Loop Drive (67 kilometers), of which we already drove part of "The Inner Road" on day 10 and enjoyed the beautiful Grand Teton National Park. Today we will drive the other part, “The Outer Road” of the Scenic Loop Drive, which runs south on US 89 and we will once again enjoy beautiful panoramas, lakes and wildlife.
We drive along Jackson Lake, a natural lake that was increased in size by the construction of the Jackson Lake Dam in 1911. This dam was built at the outlet of the lake and was enlarged in 1916 and reinforced (rebuilt) in 1989, on day 10 we drove over this dam. The top ten feet of the lake volume may be used by Idaho farmers to irrigate their fields. The lake is a remnant of the large glacial depression of the Teton Mountains in the west and the Yellowstone Plateau in the north. The same glacier also benefited from nearby Signal Mountain, where we summited on day 10.
Jackson Lake is primarily fed by the Snake River through the north of the lake and the same river exits the lake through the Jackson Lake Dam. Jackson Lake is one of the largest lakes in the United States at a higher elevation (2,064 m). The water temperature never gets warmer than 16°C, even during the summer. A large number of fish species live there, one of which is endemic. More than fifteen islands lie in the lake including Elk Island and Donoho Point.
There are several points along the route where you can stop to enjoy the beautiful panoramas over the lake. At Colter Bay Marina, one of the marinas on Jackson Lake, you can stop for a little longer for a coffee break.
After this we enter Teton National Park and continue south along the Snake River. Along this part of the route you have some nice lookout points such as “Oxbow Bend Overlook” where you have a really great view of the Snake River and Grand Teton.
At the Moran Entrance Station you can buy a ticket for the park, the cost is $35 for a motorcyclist. A nice stop, of historical significance, is the Cunningham Cabin, a log cabin in Grand Teton National Park, built by John Pierce Cunningham, who arrived in Jackson Hole in 1885 and continued as a trapper until he opened the Bar Flying U Ranch in 1888 . J. Pierce Cunningham was one of the original county commissioners, justice of the peace, postmaster and game warden.
Visit the Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center. The great expanse of the Teton Range towers over the visitor center. Inside, interwoven themes of place, people, conservation, mountaineering, and Native American Indians encourage visitors to reflect on the past, present, and future of this place. Visit this facility for information on trip planning, backcountry or boating permits. Shop at the Grand Teton Association bookstore, enjoy the variety of exhibits and artwork, attend a ranger program or watch a movie about the park.
The next stop is in Jackson, a nice town with lots of restaurants, bars and nice shops. Park the motorbikes and take some time to stretch your legs and enjoy a delicious lunch. In Jackson we also score a Poker Chip at the local Harley-Davidson dealer.
We continue on US 89 along the Snake river with beautiful views of the mountains and river. At Hoback we leave the US 89 and continue on US 189 and US 191 along the Hoback river, another beautiful road with beautiful panoramas. Enjoy the ride and stop if you can to take some pictures.
There are no longer stops planned for this last part of the ride, so enjoy the ride and beautiful Wyoming. Our end point this day is in the town of Pinedale where we spend the night in one of the hotels.

About this region
Wyoming is a state in the Mountain West subregion of the Western United States. The 10th largest state by area, it is also the least populous and least densely populated state in the contiguous United States. It is bordered by Montana to the north and northwest, South Dakota and Nebraska to the east, Idaho to the west, Utah to the southwest, and Colorado to the south. The state population was 576,851 at the 2020 United States census, making it the least populated U.S. state. It has been a politically conservative state since the 1950s, with the Republican presidential nominee carrying the state in every election since 1968.
