Route Summary
Drive like the days of yore. If you are aware of Dutch history, you can already guess what you are going to visit here, namely the routes of the Oranjes. This is a 2 days tour.Your first tour day starts at the always cozy Landgasthof Moselhöhe, where you are the guest of Peter and Anna.
Because of the incredibly beautiful surroundings, being able to soak up a lot of culture and Dutch history and also a dizzying amount of curves on good asphalt, the route gets 5 stars from me.
Start: Landgasthotel Moselhöhe

RouteXpert Review
Driving around aimlessly can be a lot of fun. Yet you increasingly see that a trip is given a theme. Likewise in this case. And for the price of one you even get two. Because: this time you are going on a 2-day tour! And not just any tour, it is a (shortened) House of Orange Tour, more easily an IHOT. Historiography pur sang… and that in “die Heimat”, because that is where the roots of PWA cs lie.The start of this tour is from Landgasthof Moselhöhe in Liesenich. I'm sure Peter and Anna are waiting to see you off and, if you arrived the night before, you've certainly arrived!
From the Moselhöhe you depart in an easterly direction and you immediately notice that not only the Eifel has bends, the Hunsrück blows a solid number in it. You steer through the hilly and winding roads towards the Rhine. You get off before the picturesque town of Boppard and you can marvel at the view over Boppard and the Rhine. Hold on to that idea, because you'll see it again later. Boppard is a bit strange driving, with a lot of illogical one-way traffic, but MRA will guide you safely to the banks of the Rhine, where you can have your first coffee. Enjoying the Rhine, of course. Hold on to this idea too, soon you will see it from the other side.
After coffee you send Boppard out, you think, but soon you are enjoying yourself at the Cäcilienhöhe with your camera and your mouth open. Don't say you weren't warned. The view from this place is perhaps even more beautiful.
You steer further south and that is about roads that would not look out of place in a separate curve route. At least you get the sides of your tires up to temperature here. Until… until you have arrived at the Rhine again and you cross the Rhine with the ferry at Kaub. This time no “Journey along the Rhine”, but a trip on the Rhine. This ferry is just for the rest you need to get, because soon on the other side we will soon cross into the Wispertal.
You drive off the ferry and you just ended up in the Taunus. Pretty soon in Lorch you turn towards the Wispertal. A video is circulating on the internet of a weirdo who drove his Bandit through the Wispertal. We follow the Wisper for a long way, until it turns north. Before that you can use a lunch in the biker café Wisperstube.
The run-up to the first IHOT is decent, but you also get something in return. The first castle you visit is Castle Nassau in… Nassau right. This is where the namesakes of our Royal Family come from. Much of the castle has been destroyed, but there is still an immense tower and you have a beautiful view of the half-crumbled castle walls.
A (fairly winding) detour takes you a little later to the 2nd building: Slot Oranienstein, one of the castles that Oranje-Nassau owns.
The next building, perhaps the most important for today, is calling. It is roughly an hour's drive to Braunfels Castle. Amalia van Solms was born in Braunfels Castle. Not really a stranger to those who used to pay attention in school. As wife of Frederik Hendrik, she had great influence on our little country.
You almost made it. Another hour on winding roads in the Westerwald and you can settle down. Reporter's tip: the steakhouse is of excellent quality. Yes, MRA is also culinary versed!
