I have further supplemented the Road Trip with even more special points that you can visit in the USA. Today we drive from Lafayette Indiana via Indianapolis to Cincinnati Ohio. It is a ride of more than 340 kilometers, with a number of beautiful and fun stops.
We drive on provincial roads and sometimes a bit of Highway or Interstate, but along the way a number of nice stops are planned and a long visit to the beautiful city of Indianapolis, known for the Indy-500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, I rate this route 4 stars.

Just outside Lafayette is the “Exploration Acres”, which is a large maze in a corn field. It is only open in the months of September and October. Every year an exciting maze is made in the corn field with a specific theme. The website has more information about the layouts in recent years, entrance to the maze is $15 and this is certainly a fun stop if you happen to be driving the route during this time.
We drive on beautiful winding provincial roads through the green Indiana landscape with small villages and farms. We stop in picturesque Zionsville, where you can take a stroll down Main Street with many “Historic Markers” that will give you more information about this town and the state of Indiana. This is also a great opportunity to have a cup of coffee in a local establishment.
We drive through Eagle Creek Park, the toll is $5 for residents and $8 for non-residents. Eagle Creek Park is the largest park in Indianapolis and one of the largest municipal parks in the United States. Enjoy the drive along Eagle Creek Parkway at Eagle Creek Park. The park has more than 1,400 hectares of water and 3,900 hectares of forest. It offers a wide range of activities such as fishing, boating, hiking and much more. There are approximately 10 miles of hiking trails in the park. You might even catch a glimpse of a bald eagle. The park is supported by the Eagle Creek Park Foundation.
The next stop is planned in Indianapolis to visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum on the grounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This is where the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame is located. It is inextricably linked to the Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400 and includes several exhibits on motorsports, passenger cars and general automotive history. There are exhibits of several former Indianapolis 500-winning cars and pace cars. The museum will close for approximately 18 months at the end of 2023 for a renovation and modernization project.
In Indianapolis, a visit to the Indiana World War Memorial Plaza is recommended. This park was built in 1919 as a memorial to veterans of Indiana and the United States. On the north side is the American Legion Mall. On the south side is the Veterans Memorial Plaza with the obelisk. The downtown Indiana World War Memorial, built after the design of the Halicarnassus Mausoleum, houses a military museum. The Plaza Historic District has been a federal historic district and a National Historic Landmark since 1994. There are many good restaurants in Downtown Indianapolis so plan a late lunch here.
As you leave Indianapolis you pass the Soldiers and Sailors Monument which stands in the middle of a large roundabout. The statue is made of limestone and bronze and is 86.5 m high. It honors Indiana veterans who served in the American Wars of the 18th and 19th centuries. The four statues on each corner of the monument represent the infantry, cavalry, artillery and navy. An observation platform at the top of the monument provides an overview of the city and its immediate surroundings. The Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument was unveiled in 1902 and cost $598,318 to build. Stop to take a photo and if you have time, climb the stairs to the observation platform. Another beautiful photo location is “The Indiana Statehouse”, this is the state capital building of Indiana. A very nice building near the Soldiers and Sailors Monument.
Before we leave Indianapolis we score a Poker Chip at Indianapolis Southside Harley-Davidson and then drive to Shelbyville, where we can enjoy a drink and a snack on one of the terraces in the city center, which will be completely renovated in 2022.
We leave Indiana and drive over beautiful roads to Cincinnati, Ohio, the end point of the day. In Cincinnati, “Spring Grove Cemetery” in particular is a must to visit. This cemetery and nicely landscaped garden has a beautiful design that will amaze you. “Spring Grove Cemetery” and Arboretum covers 733 acres (2.97 km2) and is a non-profit rural cemetery and arboretum. It is the third largest cemetery in the United States, after Calverton National Cemetery and Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, and is recognized as a U.S. National Historic Landmark. Tomorrow a visit to this historic cemetery is on the program. Be sure to take half a day to visit this cemetery.
Cincinnati has a lot to offer, so plan an extra day or two in this beautiful city on the Ohio River that also serves as the border between the states of Ohio and Kentucky. There are many hotels where you can stay for a few nights. There is always a lot to do in Cincinnati. To experience the culture, go to an art museum or attend a concert at Music Hall. You can spend an entire visit exploring the restaurants and breweries! You can also explore the miles of hiking trails in Cincinnati's parks.

Indiana
About this region
Indiana is a U.S. state in the Midwestern United States. It is the 38th-largest by area and the 17th-most populous of the 50 United States. Its capital and largest city is Indianapolis. Indiana was admitted to the United States as the 19th state on December 11, 1816. It is bordered by Lake Michigan to the northwest, Michigan to the north, Ohio to the east, the Ohio River and Kentucky to the south and southeast, and the Wabash River and Illinois to the west.
Various indigenous peoples inhabited Indiana for thousands of years, some of whom the U.S. government expelled between 1800 and 1836. Indiana received its name because the state was largely possessed by native tribes even after it was granted statehood. Since then, settlement patterns in Indiana have reflected regional cultural segmentation present in the Eastern United States; the state's northernmost tier was settled primarily by people from New England and New York, Central Indiana by migrants from the Mid-Atlantic states and adjacent Ohio, and Southern Indiana by settlers from the Upland South, particularly Kentucky and Tennessee.Indiana has a diverse economy with a gross state product of $377.1 billion in 2019. It has several metropolitan areas with populations greater than 100,000 and a number of smaller cities and towns. Indiana is home to professional sports teams, including the NFL's Indianapolis Colts and the NBA's Indiana Pacers, and hosts several notable competitive events, including the Indianapolis 500.

Ultimate USA road trip 08
Michel van Hagen challenged me to follow the Roadtrip of Dr. Randy Olsen as a basis to create the Ultimate USA Road Trip for the MyRoute app RouteXpert Library. I took up that challenge and started in February 2022.
The scientist Dr. Randy Olsen, who became known for using his knowledge of algorithms to find 'Waldo' in the well-known American 'Where's Waldo' book series, has been challenged by Tracy Staedter, from Discovery News, to use the same algorithm to create the perfect Road Trip by creating the US, which will visit almost every state in the US. Alaska and Hawaii are not included in this Road Trip due to their geographical location.
The following three requirements formed the basis of the route: In all 48 countries there must be at least one stop at famous points, monuments, historical sites, national parks, etc. I have added additional interesting points, beautiful tours and routes.
After more than 26 months, the job is finished and, with a lot of support from Nick Carthew, I have created 129 routes that run through the 48 states of the USA and part of Canada. This is the eighth collection that takes you from Mackinaw City in ten days through Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee to Springfield, Illinois.
