Last edit: 22-09-2024
The route was created through the collaboration of Boshuizen Motor Service Raalte and motorcycle club MC-Freewheels from Heeten.
This route was driven on April 24, 2021.
The route is approximately 200 km long. Along the way you have plenty of opportunities to stop a number of times and visit special places.
The roads wind through Overijssel, over the Sallandse Heuvelrug and Drenthe. The views are fantastic, so the 4 star rating is certainly appropriate.
This tour takes you via the picturesque towns of Hardenberg and Coevorden to the beautiful Havelte and back to Raalte. It promised to be a day full of adventure, camaraderie and breathtaking views.

A beautiful trip, "even in the rain"
The idea originated with Koen Boshuizen (the owner of the company of the same name). He wanted to organize an annual event in the form of a tour. The young company has grown in a few years to a medium-sized company with many customers from the wide area. The company is located in a beautiful building on the Barkstraat in Raalte.
Motorclub MC Freewheels specializes in creating beautiful routes in MyRoute-app, which are offered to its own members, motorcyclists from the area and of course to Koen Boshuizen's customers.
2021, this is already the second edition of this event. The turnout is large, more than 200 registrations. After a hospitable reception with coffee and a tasty snack, the engines can be started and start a beautiful route from the beautiful Salland towards Drenthe (Westerbork).
This route includes a few sights, so just enjoy the beautiful roads and views.
In the regions Salland towards Drenthe there are many beautiful winding roads. I would like to share these with you.
From Raalte you leave via Mariënheem, towards the Sallandse Heuvelrug. All the ingredients for an exciting tour are soon present.
The ride takes you through rolling landscapes and picturesque villages. The winding roads offer the perfect opportunity to feel the power of the engine while enjoying the beauty of the Dutch countryside. Via the beautiful view over the mountain road you drive towards Luttenberg and pass the Laarmans agricultural museum.
The museum shows the tools that cattle farmers and farmers used in the middle of the last century to care for their livestock and work the land.
They also look at the present and the future. Where is the source of our food? How is it processed into food? What is on our plate? They tell this story in the new theme 'From plate to farmer'.
After a pit stop in Gramsbergen for a cup of coffee and to stretch your legs, you can continue your journey towards Hardenberg.
From Hardenberg you head towards Coevorden, where history and modernity come together. The roads become a bit busier as you get closer to the city, but that doesn't stop you from enjoying the ride. After Coevorden, Elp comes into view. Once you arrive here, you can take the time to have lunch and experience the charm of this area. A great opportunity for this is pancake restaurant de Strohoed.
With your bellies full and your thoughts refreshed you continue through a wooded area and arrive at “Kamp Westerbork”. It is recommended to make a stop here!
Camp Westerbork is known as a memorable place that reminds us of a dark period in history. Located in the province of Drenthe, this camp was a transit camp during World War II for Jews, Sinti, Roma and resistance fighters who were deported to extermination camps such as Auschwitz and Sobibór. A visit to Camp Westerbork not only offers insight into the grim reality of the Holocaust, but also an opportunity to reflect on human resilience and find hope in the aftermath of tragedy.
Camp Westerbork was originally established in 1939 as a refugee camp for Jewish refugees from Germany. However, after the German occupation of the Netherlands in 1940, the camp was taken over by the Nazis and used as a transit camp for deportation. More than 100,000 people were deported from Westerbork to concentration and extermination camps in Eastern Europe.
After having soaked up some culture here, you will start the return journey of this route towards Beilen. For the enthusiast, there is the old bicycle museum of Jan de Bruin in the village of Echten, near Hoogeveen. He owns a small bicycle museum in a monumental barn next to his house and tells about it with great enthusiasm.
Start talking about old bicycles and Jan de Bruin's eyes start to twinkle and he starts talking about the steel horses himself. You can press a hand- backpedal- or any other brake, nothing works.
Continuing the tour, we will ride along vast fields, where you will be treated to beautiful views. The last kilometers of our tour will be filled with a mix of excitement and melancholy - excitement for the experience you have gained and melancholy because the ride is almost over.
Upon arrival in Raalte you will be greeted with a sense of satisfaction and joy. You have completed another great journey, full of unforgettable moments.
Final conclusion,
The motorcycle tour is a true triumph. It is not only a journey through landscapes, but also a journey of friendship, passion and adventure.
With roaring engines and a heart full of memories, you say goodbye to this unforgettable journey.

The memory

Not to be forgotten

The 10 most beautiful car and motorcycle routes in the Netherlands
These 10 routes in the Netherlands have been carefully selected, checked and made equal for TomTom, Garmin and MyRoute-app Navigation by a MyRoute-app RouteXpert. The 10 most beautiful motorcycle and car routes in the Netherlands are always a snapshot, and a personal opinion of the reviewer. This does not alter the fact that every lover of beautiful roads and interesting sights will enjoy these routes.
The ten routes are spread over 10 provinces, we only skipped Flevoland and South Holland. Interesting routes can also be found in the MyRoute app RouteXpert library, but we still want to stick to the 10 most beautiful and not the 12 most beautiful.
Enjoy the many fortresses and castles that are included in the routes, such as Fort Veldhuis in North Holland. But also take a look at the route southeast of Nijmegen and visit the impressive Canadian War Cemetery and Memorial. The route 'Overijssel in bird's eye view' includes the oldest house in the Netherlands and the route along the IJssel is probably the most beautiful piece of asphalt in the Netherlands.
This way there is something for everyone in this route collection. If you do not agree with these 10 routes, please send us an e-mail, indicate which route(s) should be removed and which route you would like to see instead. Maybe your route will be included in this collection of the 10 most beautiful routes in the Netherlands!
