RouteXpert Review The trip starts at Posada de Valdeon in the center of the Picos, but can easily start somewhere else in the Picos. We stayed at the hostal Casa Abascal a few nights there (see link below). The hostal and village are prefect for a short stay. not much to do, but beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, very quiet, and a nice host. Somewhat touristic, but not too much. A lot of hikers come here. Take your hiking boots if you like, because at Cain de Valdeon you can make beautiful hikes: short and long, easy and difficult. Drive there on your bike and take a hike!
I drove here in June 2017 together with two brothers: my BMW R 1200 RT, a Moto Guzzi Stelvio and a Moto Guzzi Breva. We like to drive and do not stop much of long for sightseeing. And this route makes this very worthwhile. The entire route is through a beautiful countryside so keep your eyes open at all times. See deer, wild horses, several types of birds of prey, cows, sheep. etc. And stop a few times to hear... absolutely nothing. Breathtaking.
Sights to visit are:
RP 6 The waterfall Los Forfogones: not spectecular but a nice stop. Hard to find the entrance though.
RP 8 A nice lake in the mountains Lago de Isoba
RP 14 The chasm at Rio Aller ("Foces del Río Aller")
RP 30 The chasm at Vegacervera ("Hoces de Vegacervera"). Be sure to stop there and enjoy the view of the rivers traversing the small area between the mountains.
RP 34 Museo de la Siderurgia y la Minería de Castilla y León (museum of steel and mining)
I marked some other sightseeing places worth a stop.
At the end I added a small detour through a very nice authentic village, just before Posada de Valdeon.
For lunch we stopped at a small bar right along the road in Lugueros: Bar Peña (RP 27). Very nice people and lovely food. They prepare it fresh for you, so take some time. At the end of the day you can make a stop at Riaño and drink something there and fill up your bike. There are not many places to make a nice stop however. That is also one of the disadvantages of this route: not many bars and restaurants that are open during the day. But the scenic route and nature makes up for all this.
I awarded this route 4**** stars and not 5. Two reasons: part of the route (around Bonar) is on bigger roads that are not very special (most however are very narrow and very special) and there are not that much sights to visit that are really worhtwhile (though both chasms are stunning and the offroad part is a very nice sight to visit).

Asturias (, Spanish: [asˈtuɾjas]; Asturian: Asturies [asˈtuɾjes; -ɾjɪs]), officially the Principality of Asturias (Spanish: Principado de Asturias; Asturian: Principáu d'Asturies; Galician-Asturian: Principao d'Asturias), is an autonomous community in northwest Spain.

Route Collections in this region Three tours in and around Picos de Europa Northern Spain
The Picos de Europa is a mountainous area in northern Spain, next to the Basque Country. In the middle is the village of Posada de Valdeon, which cannot be reached by motorbike from the north: you have to drive around the Picos via Potes or Sames. We stayed overnight in Posada de Valdeon in Hostal Casa Abascal. A great hotel with breakfast option. You can eat in a restaurant in the village with usually a choice of two menus.
There are all kinds of nature reserves around the Picos. These three routes take you through some of them. There are gorges to see, viewpoints, reservoirs and you can walk more than fine. If you like walking, bring your walking shoes.
But we come to ride and it's going great. Excellent roads with the occasional piece of unpaved so that you do not have to detour far for another attraction. You can eat delicious food and the people are very nice and hospitable. And because the route to Lourdes goes above the Picos, there are also pilgrimage sites and very beautiful churches and monasteries. The most beautiful thing in this area is the nature: breathtakingly beautiful with wild animals, rugged mountains and wild rivers.
All in all, you can spend at least 4 days here if you take a day of rest or go for a walk.
