Bert Loorbach, the writer, is an enthusiastic motorcyclist himself and lived in France for a year and a half. During that time he devoted himself to mapping the unknown and beautiful roads of France especially for motorcyclists.
Hotels, campsites, places of interest, parking spaces and restaurants are listed as POIs.
This tour starts and ends in Carcassonne, a beautiful city with impressive walls and towers, but also many shops and restaurants.
There are several hotels and apartments in the city and a few campsites on the outskirts of the city to spend the night.
This ride goes through the area south of Carcassonne and along the river Aude. There are several castles along the route, a number of which are certainly worth a visit and are also included as a route point or POI.
The first part to Lagrasse is already true to ride with a beautiful gorge. In Lagrasse you can visit the Abbaye Sainte-Marie de Lagrasse. We continue through the fairly wide Col de Villerouge to the town of the same name where you can visit Château de Villerouge-Termenès.
We continue to Félines where the road becomes narrower and more winding. Via Col du Prat and a number of gorges we continue to Padern where you can stop to visit Château de Padern. We continue the drive to Château de Peyrepertuse (RP9) for this we have to get off the route to drive up the narrow mountain road, watch here Here and TomTom disagree as we drive through the village of Duilhac-sous-Peyrepertuse (back and forth). After this castle we continue to the nearby Château de Quéribus (RP10). The Panorama from these two points is spectacular.
The next stop is at Hôtel Restaurant Le Relais des Corbières (RP11) where we stop for lunch.
The return trip we drive through Gorges de Galamus (RP12) this is one of the most beautiful natural phenomena in the region. This is really impressive! The river Agly has cut a deep gorge in the rock here. One hundred meters above the river (which you do hear but usually do not see) the narrow road sticks to the rock: bends, overhanging rocks and tunnels follow one another. At the bottom it is a succession of waterfalls and small basins with crystal clear water. This is followed by the Col de Linas (RP13), after which a relaxed road along the Aude will drive you back to Carcassonne. Along the way you can stop in Alet-les-Bains, a small medieval town.
This route is a beautiful tour with beautiful roads, beautiful panoramas. I therefore rate this with 5 stars.
